In Memory of

Nelda Jean (Henman) Hobbs

March 19, 1944 - August 3, 2020

Obituary

Nelda Hobbs passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 3, 2020 at the age of 76.  Nelda was born in Nevada, Missouri on March 19, 1944. Nelda is preceded in death by her husband Bill Hobbs, her parents Owen and Ruth Henman, her brother Carl (Jennie) Henman, her sister Donna (Bud) Gentry, and her sister-in-law Karen Henman.  Nelda is survived by her brother Loren Henman, her sister Virginia (Jim) Patton, many nieces and nephews, her daughter Kim (Dave)Tannehill, her daughter Dana (Brad) Lyon, her son Kevin Hobbs, 5 grandchildren: Josh Tannehill, Piper Hickey, Kyle Tannehill, Parker Hickey, and Elijah Hobbs, plus 4 great grandchildren.

After the family moved to Kansas City from Nevada, MO, Nelda attended John J. Pershing Elementary and later graduated in 1962 from Southeast High School.  She attended the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO for a brief time because she had her sights set much higher on someone else, Bill Hobbs, who she married in June, 1964.  Many will remember her many years working in Dr. Bernard Winston’s dermatology office as his assistant/medical secretary. Later she worked in several other doctors’ offices of varying specialties. She also studied to earn her massage and electrolysis licenses, which she conducted out of her home or at a medical office.  She loved beautiful skin, hair, nice clothes, shoes, and accessories.  She also had a flair for decorating, turning the most plain room into something special.  Most people wouldn’t know she played the accordion in her youth or about her skillful art of painting beautiful pictures as she was always so humble.  She cooked the best meals in her kitchen, especially for family events and holidays.

Family and friends will remember Nelda for her unending faith in our Lord and Savior, her love of everything Christian, love for her immediate and extended families, all children everywhere, and everyone who just happened to be around her.  She established strong friendships, a sense of fashion, continual bargain shopping (to turn around and just give it away), benevolence toward the needy, and readiness to help others.  She is already missed and will be dearly missed by all!  “To know her is to love her!”

The family wishes to thank Kim and Dave Tannehill from the bottom of their hearts for taking Nelda into their home and caring for her so beautifully the past three years in Minnesota.  God Bless You!

Services will be held at the Langsford Funeral Home on Monday, August 10, 2020. The Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00am, the Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am with the Burial Service immediately following at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.

I have so many great memories of your mom and your family growing up. I so enjoyed reading about her life. I know losing a family
Member is very difficult and eventually we to will be going down the same path with my mother. In normal times I would be at the service to pay my respects, but we are leaving next week to go see our granddaughter be born. Much love and prayers sent for all of you.
