For decades, Judy was one of my mother’s best friends. When I was little, she taught me to walk (or run, depending on who you ask.) When I was in college, she was a mom-away-from-home. When time grew short for my mother, Judy showed me the immeasurable power of lifelong friendship. She was one of a kind and my life is better for having known her. Rest easy at last, Judy.

Judy, my dear friend:
We first met in our pursuit of a high to perfect bowling score. Never reached that 300 game, but had wonderful times trying. At tournaments, we were the two night owls that lead to many quiet late night chats, always with a coke. After you left New Mexico to return to your family roots, our contact was infrequent until you reached out to me following the tragic loss of a beloved grandson to a rare cancer. That started our daily emails where we exchanged our interests. Those were in a multitude of areas. Family (your grandchildren, my great-grandchildren), reading, sports, foods (we both love New Mexican food),recipe’s, and even a little bit of politics. Our interests were amazingly the same. The only thing we didn’t share was your love of basketball, me, not so much. How much I have missed our exchanges can’t be expressed.
You were first to offer help to anyone needing it, your thoughtfulness unending, and I have been so blessed to have you as a true friend. You are no longer with us physically but you will be with us in spirit forever. Your strength will see us through accepting your absence. To Judy’s family, know how proud she was of your achievements and how deeply she loved you. God Bless and comfort each and everyone of you.
I MISS YOU, JUDY!!

Judy was so much more than a ‘cousin’ to me … cousins are our first friends usually. Reconnecting after so many years was the start of a wonderful friendship over the past 25 years or so. Judy was the keeper of the family histories and news. It will never be the same … she was so faithful to write an email each evening, regardless of how tired or busy. That was the last thing I would look at before going to bed … always asking how I was doing, sharing bits of family news, following her sports … and always closing with “later, love, Judy” She encouraged, cared and was willing (and very able) to help with anything. Our visits were so much fun, especially in Santa Fe, and we made such great memories … laughing how much our husbands were so alike! It is with profound sadness that I say goodbye and thank you, Judy, for all the kindness and love.

Thinking of everyone today whose lives have been touched by Judy, her family in particular. As my older cousin by 2 months I remember our childhood days in Blue Springs, Aunt Bell and then Judy being the go-to folks for family history, and more recently being our home away from home when making our KS and MO visits. We all have memories to keep Judy close by. Prayers for comfort always.

I remember Judy as opinionated and cautiously outspoken, an injection of personality that I always felt our family needed.

Dale, please know that I have you in my heart. I understand how difficult this must be, but you do have people nearby (and distantly) who care and are now concerned about you.

My remembrance donation in Judy’s name will go to Basenji Rescue and Transport (B.R.A.T.) which has provided me with many rescued basenjis over the last 20 years.

After all of the confusion you will have a lot of time to yourself. Please take care.
You are welcome in Wisconsin should you decide to find snow. Or beautiful freshwater lakes and streams. I have 2 vacant bedrooms.

I have known Judy since 1949 when we both lived in Blue Spring, MO. We were in the fourth grade and around 9-years of age. I think I qualify as having known her for a long time. My middle sister (Jan) was in the same grade as Ann Cooper and Penny Reynolds, all in the first grade at Blue Springs. In that 70-plus years, there has been much water under the bridge. The extended families of both Owen and Cooper have known each other for an even longer time, going back more than a century – who can remember? For all of that time, my family has had fond memories of Judy’s forebears. I even have a few pictures to show for it. My deepest condolences to the extended family of Judy Coy.

Dale, I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish I could of attended her service. I met Judy when I was neighbors with Mommy Bell and I can say both of those ladies were Angels from Heaven and are now Angels in Heaven. You and Judy hold a very special place in my heart and I’m sorry we lost contact after I moved. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
