Obituary
Orville”Les” Housley Jr (95) of Lee’s Summit, Mo passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023. Visitation Thursday, 9-10am, April 6 at Langsford Funeral home. Funeral services will be held graveside at 10:30 Mount Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Les’s memory to Wayside Waifs. Full obituary can be found at:

Les was born December 17, 1927 in Soldier, KS to Mary and Orville Housley. They later settled in Emporia, KS where he spent his childhood and graduated from Emporia High School.
Les entered the army before the end of WWII. He married Lois Joan Worcester in Denver, CO, his Kindergarden sweetheart, before he left for Japan. He returned and they made Kansas City their home and later in Lee’s Summit.
Les owned Royal Equipment Company in KC from 1970 until his retirement. He worked long into his 80’s.
Les enjoyed flying kites with his children and Boy Scouts with his sons. He was known to chronicle the lives of his children behind the lens of his video camera, long before it was a thing. He took his family frequently to Colorado to explore all those places he dreamed of as a child. Les and Lois bowled weekly in a bowling league in Lee’s Summit, many years before they moved to LS. He held season tickets for the Royals and KC Chiefs. Lois and Les traveled to Mexico and Europe many times. Took cruises with their close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Mary Schaefer and Richard Housley; and his wife Lois, of 65 years. He is survived by his children: son Phillip (Elaine) Housley of Dublin, Ohio; daughter Marilyn (Daniel) Moser of Lee’s Summit; son Alan (Marci) Housley of Boise, Idaho; and grandchildren Andrew Housley of Sacramento, CA; Brett Moser of St Louis, MO; Maegan Housley of Sacramento, CA; and Scott Moser of Phoenix, AZ. The family would especially like to thank the caregivers at John Knox Village and Village Hospice.

I met Les at John Knox while visiting my Aunt Doris. He was always cheerful and positive. I always included some extra treats for him when I saw my aunt. He was a true gentleman and a good friend to my aunt
I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing Marilyn. Sending most sincere condolences.
Les had a full life with family, travel, and served our country. He’ll be missed by his loving family and friends. Prayers for his family at this time of loss.

Although not knowing Les Housley well, I know he raised fine man and good son in my brother-in-law, Alan Housley. Condolences to the family. Rest in peace, Les.
Prayers to the Housley family from Les’s oldest daughter in law. I’ve known and loved Les since we met back in 1969 when Phil and I started dating. We’re still married after 50+ years since he taught his family how to relate with others.
I hope he’s happy that he’s in heaven with Lois, looking down at us.
