Obituary
Alice Margaret Mathis (Norman) was born April 27, 1919, in Peoria, IL. She moved to Independence, MO, with her family when she was a baby. She graduated from William Chrisman high school. Alice met the love of her life, Clifford Mathis, in 1946. They were married 74 years.
She worked at various retail stores, including Hartzfelds and Emry, Bird and Thayer. Alice also co-owned a Western Auto store with her husband Cliff in Kansas City, before it was destroyed by the Ruskin tornado in 1957. She was a proud member of First Baptist Raytown and was an avid reader. In retirement, she also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Ralph and Robert Childs, and husband Clifford Mathis. She is survived by one daughter, Denise; one grandson, Kory; Kory’s wife Hannah, and their daughter Hazel; and 3 nieces, Pamela and Paula Childs, and Alice Lamar.
