Obituary

Bertha Irene (Bell) Case, age 98, passed to her eternal rest on July 5, 2024, at her home with her husband and children at her side.  Visitation will be held at the Church of Christ – Temple Lot (200 S River, Independence MO) at 10:00 am, July 12, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11:00. A graveside service will be held at 2:45 pm at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens (25203 US Hwy 50, Lee’s Summit MO).

Irene began her earthly journey on September 13, 1925; born to Harvey and Alvina Bell in Sidney, Nebraska.  The family moved to Ava, Missouri, while she was a child.  After graduating from Ava high school, Irene moved to Independence, Missouri, and worked at Kansas City Power and Light. She met Leslie Case at church in Independence and found in him a companion for life. They married on August 2, 1945, and made their home in Independence.

The couple moved to a small acreage in rural Kansas City in 1954 and enjoyed the country life for the remainder of their 78 years together.

Irene and Leslie were blessed with 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.  After their marriage, Irene devoted her time to raising their children, doing volunteer work at the children’s school and with a county well-baby clinic. As the grandchildren came along, she cared for many of them as well her grandmother.  One of her greatest joys was having all of her family together, and when they all gathered with spouses and children, her little home could burst with 40 to 60 people, happy to be in her presence..

Irene loved the Lord and supported her husband in his ministry and missionary work in the Church of Christ.  Irene had a servant’s heart and was active in the church as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Church School teacher, and often served on the church kitchen committee and outreach with the women’s group.  She and Leslie traveled across the U.S. doing missionary work and sharing Christ’s love with many.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her 6 siblings and a son-in-law, Terry Affholder.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Leslie Case of Kansas City, and her children Jim Case (Bonnie) of Lone Jack, MO, Don Case  (Bonnie) of Higginsville, MO, Linda Larsen (Tom) of Cedaredge, CO, and Paula Morgan (Jim) of Baldwin City, KS.  She will be greatly missed by her family and the many whose lives she touched.
