Obituary
Carl L Beer, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Lee’s Summit, MO, on August 21, 2025, with his wife of 67 years, Patricia, by his side.
Carl was born on November 17, 1938, in KCMO to Carl Lacey Beer & Frances Eudora Reed. He joined the Marines directly out of high school and was a proud veteran.
Carl was a renowned Golf Course Superintendent around the KC Area. He started at Tomahawk Hills Co Club before going to Mission Hills Country Club in 1965, where he retired after 32 years. He attended the Univ of MA Stockbridge Winter Turf Program, where he served as class President. Carl was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent of America Association & Heart of American GCSA, serving a term as President.
Carl & Pat married January 18, 1958. They raised 4 children, Carl Lee Jr, Kurt David, Kip Sinclair, and Sandra Ann, in Overland Park, KS. In 1978, they bought a summer home at Lake Lotawana, MO. Drawn to the lake life, Carl & Pat became full time residents in 1986. Carl held many volunteer positions, including auxiliary Police officer for the city, Lake Lotawana Association director & served a term as President.
Carl & Pat were Winter Texans, spending many years in South Padre Island, TX. He didn’t know a stranger, making friends everywhere he went.
Carl was an avid reader, enjoying non-fiction, history, & military. Sometimes reading 2-3 books a week. His love of animals meant always having one by his side. His last was a Maltese/Pom he named Sucre. Traveling was his other favorite pastime, most often with their lifelong friends.
Carl was an extremely loving & funny patriarch. His sense of humor, which he instilled on his children, was 2nd to none & will be extremely missed.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, son Kurt, sister & brother-in-law Posy & Sonny Trefz, and brothers, Mike McMillin, Danny Centimano, & Daryl Beer.
He is survived by his wife Pat of the home; sons Carl, Kip (Lori); daughter Sandy (John), daughter-in-law Cindy; grandchildren Cassie (Mitch), Jeremy (Kady), & Dylan (Austin); 5 great grandchildren; brothers Patrick McMillin (Freda), Randy (Marian) Beer; sister, Pam (Mike) Setter, sister-in-law Susie McMillin, aunt Joy Fansler & many nieces & nephews.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of Carl’s passing. For over 30 years, I was fortunate not only to call him a loyal customer but also a friend. I will always cherish the many years of funny greetings, chuckling moments, and friendship and trust we shared. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family during this difficult time.”
Although I’ve only known the Beer family about nine years, I know Carl and Pat to be the most kind, generous, and caring couple. Always going all out at family get togethers with the best food, drink and focus on “together”. Carl’s humor, love for people, family, and his infectious smile made you feel so welcome. He will truly be missed. Much, much love!

The Beers were such a big part of my childhood. I remember so many nights of our parents sitting around, playing cards, and drinking grasshoppers. Carl Beer was always teasing us and laughing. I’m so sorry for your loss. He was an awesome human being.
He never failed to make me laugh.
Nothing but good memories from the whole family! God speed Mr Beer.
Loved that man. He was part of shaping my life. Condolences.
My deepest condolences to the Beer family. I know that we didn’t see each other much but I know how important Carl was to my family. He was near and dear to my grandfather, whom I loved so much, and I know he will be greatly missed.
