I am four years younger than my cousin Stan Chambers. He was born in 1941 near the old community of Origanna which was west of Competition near the Laclede-Wright County line. Uncle Lowell and Aunt Velma lived in both Competition and Idaho before settling in Kansas City in 1952. Stan lived with his grandparents, Al and “Mandy” Crisp Dowden, in 1952 and 1953 attending Manes Grade School and learning to do “an honest days work” on the farm.
After moving to Kansas City, he still came down during the summer to help our Uncle Carl milk and help both Uncle Carl and his Uncle Ralph (my father) on the farm. Sixty-five years ago Stan married Carol and during that time she attended many, many family events with Stan. In the summers of 1965 and 1966I lived with Aunt Velma and Uncle Lowell and worked in his cement construction business. Both Stan and I learned a lot of valuable lessons from him. Besides Stan and Carol feeding me a lot of good meals, I helped David and Craig consume lots of popcorn at the drive-in movies.
Our cousin Connie is on the Evening Shade “Crisptown” Cemetery board. Our great-great grandparents Squire and “Peggy” Prock Crisp had a house and blacksmith shop there. Their tombstones are the jamrocks from their fireplace. Connie says that the cemetery fund is getting low, so I am going to donate $100 to that fund in honor of Carol.
Squire (1808-1894) and “Peggy” (1810-1900) first settled at the Burney Ford of the Gasconade River in 1835. My brother Lonnie and his son, Al Dowden, bought that land from Donald Gene Crisp, our great-uncle Jack Crisp’s grandson. In nine more years, that land will have been in the family 200 years!

I so wish I could have made the service. I loved Carol. She and Stan helped me so much when I moved to LSMT w my two boys, Michael and Matt in 1995. The Chambers were loved by my family and I am so glad I saw Stan the other day. Hugs to all of their family, lots of good memories during Lane Avenue years and beyond. Sincerely Nancy Clark (Grashuis)

Stan, David, Craig,
What a wonderful woman who lived took such good care of her 3 boys! Yes Stan. You are in that category. Being your boys age, I was enamored with you and Carol when I was young. When my folks would sing and invite them to our home, I would be in awe of their fun and such big presence. I wanted to grow up to be just like your mom. I missed by a fair share, but I never lost my awe of Stan & Carol Chambers. I’m so thankful her and my mother have met and are singing around the throne of Jesus. We will see them soon. Until then…. Let joy reign!! Your momma/wife would want it that way! Love to you all!!💜

Stan, I just recently learned of Carol’s promotion into the arms of Jesus. She was a wonderful friend to me when Dennis and I lived in Kansas City. She took me under her wing, gave me the opportunity to sing in Christian Women’s clubs all over the city. She was a kind and fun friend. Forever grateful the season we had with y’all. Dennis passed away July 8, 2022. He was a Godly man who loved Jesus, me and our great big family. I know the heartache of losing a spouse you’re deeply in love with. We had 53 years. My heart goes out to you and the boys. Love and prayers while finding your footing in this new place.
An old friend
Brenda Pratt
