Obituary

Carolyn Sue Shawhan, 84, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, with loved ones at her side.

Carolyn was born January 25, 1942. She spent much of her life in the Kansas City and Independence, Missouri areas, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

Carolyn proudly owned and operated her own beauty salon in downtown Kansas City for many years. After selling her salon, she continued working in several salons throughout Kansas City and Independence until retiring in her 60s. She greatly enjoyed visiting with her clients and formed many lasting friendships with those who sat in her chair.

Her greatest devotion was her faith in the Lord. Carolyn was a faithful and devoted Christian who attended the same church for many years. She believed strongly in sharing God’s love with others and spent much of her life encouraging people, praying for those in need, and helping guide others who were searching for their path in life. Though soft-spoken, she had a strong spirit and unwavering faith.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Mabel Acree; her husband, Dean Shawhan; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe Gene.

Survivors include her three children, Kim Shawhan of Collins, Missouri; Tabatha Shawhan of Rolla, Missouri; and Dwayne Shawhan of Kingman, Arizona; 13 grandchildren, Jake Lindquist, Thomas Lindquist, Jonathan Lindquist, Shane Coffman, Shawn Coffman, Ashley O’Banion, Luke O’Banion, Steven Rogers, Brittany O’Banion, Tiffany Fields, Tyson Shawhan, Dakota Shawhan, and Norman Shawhan; and 14 great-grandchildren, Kadence Rogers, Spencer Rogers, Brock Kelly, Karter Brown, Scarlett McKinzie, Chloe Gene, Bentley Myers, Braylen Myers, Keagan Fields, Waylon Fields, Presley Fields, Kinsey Cowick, Emeri Cowick, and Hayes Cowick, along with several other great-grandchildren she was not able to meet.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Carolyn will be remembered for her strong faith, loving heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.

Psalm 91:1–2
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.’”

Isaiah 53:5
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed”.
