Obituary

Cheryl Ann (Grogan) McCafferty, 74, passed away on January 2, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Cheryl was born on January 12, 1948, in Jefferson City, MO, to Fay and Helen Grogan. She attended Plattsburg Elementary, Greenwood Elementary, Lee’s Summit Junior High, and Lee’s Summit High School, where she was a member of the French Club, Pep Club, and National Honor Society. Cheryl attended Southwest Baptist University, University of Central Missouri, and University of Missouri at Kansas City, where she studied Education and History.

Cheryl met and fell in love with David Lee McCafferty while he worked for her father on the James A. Reed Wildlife Area. They were married on June 8, 1968 at Lee’s Summit First Baptist Church and blessed with the birth of their daughter, Keri LeeAnn McCafferty, on May 22, 1978.

Cheryl selflessly supported her husband throughout his career with the Air Force Civil Service as they moved from Missouri to Wichita, KS, Colorado Springs, CO, Lubbock, TX, and San Antonio, TX. After retirement, Cheryl and David stayed in Texas to be close with their daughter, splitting time between San Antonio and Houston. Her faith and her family meant everything to her. She was an avid mystery reader, enjoyed the company of her pets, and delighted in family Disney trips. We are grateful for the many joyful, happy memories. Cheryl was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, her daughter, her sister Joy Taylor, and her brother-in-law Tim Taylor.

Graveside services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens Cemetery 25203 US Hwy 50, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
