Obituary

Dewey Neal Standley, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, son of Frank Dewey and Sadie May (Snow) Standley, passed away quietly on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri, on July 25, 1941. He attended school in Carrollton, graduating from Carrollton High School in 1959.

He joined the United States Navy just after graduation and lovingly served his country for 3 years, first in boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Facility in Waukegan, Illinois, then aboard the U.S.S. Mount McKinley, based out of Norfolk, Virginia, until he departed the service in 1962.

He married Juanita June Kirker on June 23, 1963, at Coloma Baptist Church, Coloma, Missouri.

Dewey spent his life being an automobile mechanic, retiring from Virgil’s Garage in 2003. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and travel. He and June and one of his 5 dachshunds spent the last 15 winters in the sun at Country Palms RV Park, San Juan, Texas, where many new friends were made. He and June had their “trip of a lifetime” going to Alaska in the summer of 2008, for nearly 3 months.

Besides his wife, June, he leaves behind two sons, Neal Allan, of the home and Frank Dewey and his loving wife Melinda of Shawnee, Kansas, two loving granddaughters, Dathney May, Shawnee, and Paige Elizabeth, Salt Lake City, Utah, his sister Betty Rose Bloss of Slater, Missouri, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 7, 2023 at Langford’s Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit. Burial will be in Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, Lee’s Summit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Boy Scouts Troop 323 at the Lee’s Summit Presbyterian Church.

Dewey was one hell of a man! I will never forget the first time I ever met him at 0415 in the morning at Sue’s and he called me “Dogs” because my coworkers told him it pissed me off. He called me Dogs ever since (or Stud). He will be greatly missed!!

Dewey was a lifelong dear friend who always cared from his heart! He always said what he meant and meant what he said in return. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest with his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed from fond memories of times spent with June and him through the years. Keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

May he rest in peace free from all pain.

We met Dewey and June at the USS Mt McKinley reunions and became very close friends. We spent some time in Texas with them in 2015. Dewey was an awesone person and very much loved by us. Tom is fighting cancer and we won’t be able to be there for the funeral. Love you, June

I am so sorry for your loss. Dewey, June & the boys lived down the street from us on Kay dr. I used to babysit for the boys so Dewey & June could have date night.

Dewey was the kind of guy that would always be available to help someone. He could make you laugh if you needed it. He could also mix in a lot of razzing along the way. He was a family friend for a long long time. He will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with June now.
God Bless

June and family: I’m sending my condolences and prayers for you and your family.

Dewey will surely be missed! For the last 25 years, he and June have been great neighbors of mine. Dewey was a lot like a father figure to me. He kept an eye out for my house, my sons, and myself. I could ask him stuff. He knew stuff. And had many friends stopping by…many of the police (cuz he was a mechanic for them too) checking in. Will really miss our talks.
RIP Dewey.

There was definitely only ONE Dewey. We are saddened to hear of his passing and will always remember his witty and ornery self. He will be greatly missed. June and family you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sweet June:

I’m so sorry to hear about Dewey. Behind that tough exterior, Dewey was a kitten. I’msi glad I got to see that side if him.
June:
May the Lord keep you, and bless you, and make His face shine upon you and give you the undeniable peace that can only come from Father God.
Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Grinke ((Hugs))
