Obituary
Donna Marie Kenney (Grissom), a devoted mother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her son and daughter on Friday, April 11, 2025 in Lee’s Summit, MO at the age of 83. She was born October 5, 1941 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of John J. Grissom and Bettie J. Smith.
Donna graduated from Ruskin High School in KC MO, class of 1959. She was in the honor society, pep club, vocational club, pep club officer, chorus treasurer, and was a cheerleader. Following graduation she married Richard L. Kenney. Together they had two wonderful children, which they raised together. After being a stay-at-home parent, she went on to pursue her career. She graduated with honors from Longview Community College and received an Associates Degree and then continued her education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She was on the deans list and graduated with honors as an Occupational Therapist. She worked in Columbia at a hospital where she worked with brain injury patients. She took a traveling job as an occupational therapist and absolutely loved it. She traveled to several states with her beloved dog, Kassie.
Donna enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking in the woods, spending time with her family and friends, hot air balloons, festivals of all kinds, ice cream, chocolate, and was an avid reader. She traveled to Africa and met many new friends. She went sky diving twice and was even afraid of heights.
Survivors include her son, Rick Kenney (Tammy) of Excelsior Springs, MO, her daughter, Kristy Kenney of Lake Lotawana, MO. Four brothers, Bobby Grissom, Steve Grissom, Wes Bolyard, and Rod Bonsack. Two sisters, Bev Bonsack and Shirl Quick. Many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, John J. Grissom, step-mother, Hope C. Grissom, mother, Bette J. Smith (Bonsack), brothers, JD Grissom, Chuck Bonsack, and Michael Grissom, and ex-husband, Richard L. Kenney.
A celebration of life visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from
6-8pm at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
