Obituary
With deep sadness, our family shares the peaceful passing of Donna R. Sellinger of Lee’s Summit on December 4th, 2025, at age 87. She was born in Bradford, PA to Russell and Lois Reed. She attended Rochester Business Institute and met Jerry Sellinger and they married in 1958. Donna had type I diabetes since age 16 and was determined to live a full and productive life, which she did. Her determination and discipline were admirable to anyone that knew her. She began her career as a medical secretary and then a mother. Later, she spent 25 years in retail customer service for the Jones Store and Macy’s.
Donna was an enthusiastic bowler, golfer and card player and loved meeting friends along the way. She always had a smile on her face that lit up the room. She even smiled right before she passed, which brought her family much comfort. She was a very generous and giving person; always wanting to make sure everyone was happy in her home. That showed through with her meals, snacks and gifts.
Donna was a devoted spouse, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her children: Bonnie Nash of Palm Bay. FL, Barb Thompson (Steve) of Overland Park, KS and David Sellinger of Lee’s Summit, MO. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
The family wants to thank the hands-on caregivers, kitchen and laundry staff at Cross Creek Memory Care of Lee’s Summit, MO where she resided the past 9 months. Also, the family wants to thank Ascend Hospice for their compassion and care of Donna. Lastly, the family wants to thank Stacy and Bill Althaus for providing great support through the death of Jerry last year and the failing health of Donna this year.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any charity of your choice.
Arrangements for a visitation will be held at Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church on Saturday, January 17th at 10:00 AM. A mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Address: 130 NW Murray Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. A graveside ceremony will be held at a later date for family.
