Obituary

Doreen W. Evans passed away on May 3, 2023.  She was the beloved Matriarch of a large yet close-knit family.  To her family she was known as Mom, Deanie, Ma, Oma, Grandma.  But to everyone who knew her she was kindness, love, comfort, caring, fun, giving, generosity.  As her family members say, she set the bar way too high for the rest of us.

Deanie was born June 29, 1927 in Kansas City, MO to Sylvester and Naomi McCready.  She was one of 6 children.

She and 2 of her sisters sang on local radio and for the USO during WWII.  She then married Joseph E. Evans.  They had a son, Charles Stephen (Steve).  Deanie was a homemaker most of her adult life.  Later, she and Joe enjoyed Square Dancing and Bowling.  They were active in their Church, most recently Our Lady of the Presentation in Lee’s Summit.  Joe preceded her in death in 2017.

She was also preceded in death by her 4 sisters and brother.

Deanie is survived by her son Steve and wife Laurie, her grandsons Phillip (Tammy), Kyle and Trent (Kelsey), great grandchildren Elizabeth, Stephen, Emilee, Egan, Wynn, Abbey and JoJo and great great granddaughter Lauren.  Deanie also leaves her sister-in-law Bobbi as well as cousins and numerous nieces and nephews and Steve’s longtime friend, Jack Graham.

Deanie’s family wishes to thank all of their family and friends for the many kindnesses shown during her illness. Flowers, donations to the Church or just your presence in support of her family is so appreciated.
