Obituary

Doretta Lou Bruno, age 95, went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2025, passing away at the home of her son Michael. She was born in Ardmore, Missouri on October 29, 1929, the day the Stock Market crashed starting the Great Depression. She was the daughter of William Sidney Guffey and Ruby L. (Haney) Guffey, the fifth of eleven children of their marriage, and the last surviving child. Her father gave her the nickname “Peaches” because of her “peaches and cream” complexion.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her beloved husband of 68 years Russell Lee Bruno; her siblings: Mary Reynolds (Walter), Billy Eugene “Gene” Guffey (Ellen), Claude “Tom” Guffey, Anna Lucille Cox (Damon), William “Pat” Guffey (Ruth), Grace Pulis (Dale), Delbert Guffey (Joyce), David Guffey (Sandra), Ruth Shepherd, and Ruby Arlene White (Earl); and her grandson Mark Russell Bruno. She is survived by her children:  Michael Bruno (Nancy) of Overland Park, Kansas, Larry Bruno (Victoria) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Janice Lee (Garry) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; her grandchildren Jonathan Bruno (Maria), Laura McGowan (Stephen), David Bruno (Catherine), Molly Byars (James), Kelly Conner (Randy), and Corey Lee (Buyant); and twenty-three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and three sister-in-laws.

She was baptized at the Ardmore Methodist Church when she was a girl, and where her father was later a minister. Since the 1950s, she lived in Raytown, Missouri. She was a member of the Raytown Assembly of God where she and Russell spent uncountable hours volunteering. Doretta was for many years in charge of the church nursery where she delighted in taking care of babies and small children. She enjoyed her family, reunions, gardening, and a cruise to Alaska with her husband Russell. She was generous to her family and neighbors, felt blessed by God, and prayed for those in need. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother and sister, aunt and friend. Her kindness will long be remembered.

Services will be held at Langsford Funeral Home, Lees Summit, MO. Monday, October 6, 2025.

Graveside service will be at Mt Salem Cemetery, Excello, Missouri , Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

Aunt Doretta will always have a special place in my heart. She was kind and genuinely cared about others. I know she’s in heaven now doing good work.
Rest in Peace.
Love Your Niece
Kathy

So sorry to hear of your loss. She lived a long, wonderful life and loved by so many. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Until very recently, I worked with Mrs. Bruno’s daughter Janice for many years at Longview Community College. Janice told me many wonderful stories of her parents; I always enjoyed them. Although I never met Mrs. Bruno, I know from Janice she was a wonderful person of great faith in our Lord Jesus.
Janice and her family are in my prayers at this time of great loss.
