Obituary
Doris A. Harrell, age 92, passed peacefully on February 13, 2026. She was born on January 15, 1934, to Genevieve Dennis and Bill Lyons in Higginsville, MO.
Doris lived a life rooted in love, laughter, and devotion to her family. She met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Harrell, in a nightclub in a moment that became family legend—when she pretended her cigarette lighter didn’t work and asked him for a light. Though she nearly backed out of their first date after learning his car heater didn’t work, her mother insisted she keep her word. That small push led to a lifetime of love. Doris and Bob were married on April 23, 1961, and shared many years together until his passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Bob.
Doris is survived by her two children, Kevin Harrell and Kym Harrell; her grandchildren, Brittney Harrell (Kimberly), Lauren Zrostlik (Chris), and Nathan Harrell; and her great-grandchildren, Knox and Myla Zrostlik.
A devoted homemaker and expert seamstress, Doris took pride in caring for her home and family. She found joy in simple pleasures—tending to her flowers in the summer, and decorating for the holidays in the winter. Her family meant everything to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Favorite memories include outings with her grandchildren to Wendy’s and Dollar Tree, enjoying Popeyes chicken, fishing at the lake with Kevin, daily phone calls with Kym, and getting her nails done with as much sparkle as possible.
Doris was known for always wanting her hair to look just right, faithfully keeping a weekly hair appointment for more than 70 years. Her laugh was contagious and could light up any room.
Doris will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, her laughter, her firecracker of a spirit, and the unwavering love she gave to those around her.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Interment will follow at Higginsville Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests making contributions in Doris’ honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Thinking of the Harrell family. Doris will be greatly missed. Peace and love.
Rest in peace. It will always be in the hearts of the loved ones you left behind but you’ll see them someday. I didn’t know you but I knew your son and you did a great job with him cuz he’s a great guy especially to the people I care about and T-Bone and Gordy, sincerely, Barbara Elkins
Doris lived a full and feisty life! She LOVED babies, kids, and sewing. Oh, and Walmart!
In her last days, I knew I could get her to light up by talking about her grandbabies, and her sparkly nails as I held her hand and we shared ‘I love you’s. 🥰
Great memories were made. Rest in peace, dear Doris.
Doris was family, friend and confidant. I will miss your phone calls terribly! I love you Doris.
Doris, my sister-in-law, was friend, family and confidant. We kept in touch by phone and I loved her and will miss her dearly. I miss all of my family in Missouri and my heart goes out to you.
I only met Doris once but I had a great time talking to her. She was sitting next to me in the nail salon getting her sparkly nails done as I got mine done. I know her granddaughter Brittney very well and have met her mom Kym several times. Every one of them were delightful people.
My deepest sympathies go out to her friends and family. She will be greatly missed. Sending love to you all.
Deepest sympathy to Kim and Kevin and their families .
Fond memories of our old neighborhood on Eastern. I Loved having morning coffee with Doris . I always admired her beautiful flowers and sewing talent . She was a free spirit and enjoyed good laugh ! Bless her for her goodness . My Mother loved her, too! (Meme) . Those were great years.

Kym, Kevin and family, I am so sorry. I loved Doris and will miss our phone calls so much. She was a favorite family member and friend. My heart goes out t you! I know how much she loved you and the grandchildren!
Grandma was my person, always the first person I looked for in a room. My heart is missing a piece with her gone, but I know she knew how much I loved her.
The memory of her taking Lauren and me shopping for Christmas and wrapping those gifts stays so vivid. I’m going to miss her jokes and that wonderful laugh. Thinking of you and sending my love during this difficult time.
I met Doris when I was in high school & she became a 2nd mom to me. She was always interested in my life & how I was doing. After I moved to the east coast & couldn’t find anyone to do my alterations she said “Melissa- just bring your clothes when you come back to visit your Mom & Dad.”
I am so happy that we got to see her on our visit last summer. Sending prayers of comfort to Kevin & Kym. 🙏 Your mother brought joy to so many & will be missed. 💖
We lived next door to Ms Doris on Blackjack Ave for 4 years. Our 2 oldest children liked to go over next door and talk to her and look at her flowers. One of the sweetest ladies we have had the pleasure of knowing. We lost touch when we moved about 5 years ago. Our condolences to your family. She was a beautiful soul.
