Obituary

Doris E Fountain, 92, Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away May 4, 2023, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be held May 11, 2023, at 10:30 at Our Lady Of The Presentation Catholic Church, Lee’s Summit, MO. Visitation one hour prior. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.

Doris was born on Oct 15, 1930, in Lamoni, IA. She graduated from Lamoni High School in 1948 where she was active in drama, band, orchestra and played on the school’s basketball team. She met her husband Mark while he was attending Graceland University in Lamoni, and they were married Sept 10, 1948. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage. She worked for many years as a nurse in nursing homes and medical clinics. She was a member for several years of the American Business Women’s Association, Kansas City, serving as president for one year and being named “Woman of the Year” in 1978. She volunteered many places throughout the years including Baptist Medical Center, the Good Samaritan Project, Kansas City and SAVE Home KC. During her years at John Knox Village, she volunteered at the John Knox Village Care Center and the John Knox Village Thrift Shop. She served on the board of the John Knox Village Auxiliary, serving as vice-president for two years and President for two years. She also attended or performed at various events and parades as “Pinky” the clown.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Mark, father, William E Watt, mother, Dorris L (Braby) Jarbo, stepmother Jennie D (Hungerford) Watt and sister Florice I (Watt) McDonald. She is survived by her daughter Jan Fountain-Elliott (Amy), son Doug Fountain (Henry Pittman) and grandson Drake Rorabaugh as well as many other friends from her working years and Village life.
