Obituary
Dorothy Ann Pirie (Loomis) died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Dorothy was born on September 26, 1939, in Pocahontas, Iowa, to Harold and Ella Loomis. Dorothy was raised in the small-town farming community of Plover, Iowa graduating in 1957 as homecoming queen of her class. Dorothy briefly studied in the Kansas City area to become an airline stewardess before marrying the love of her life, James Pirie, on November 24, 1957.
Dorothy was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband even through challenges of his 20-year military career which took them around the world and through service in wartime. She was also known as a dedicated and loving mother of her four children, Charles, David, Arletta, and Jon. Dorothy was a committed Christian whose relationship with Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life. Dorothy was a servant-minded member of her church family and a loyal, loving and dedicated friend to many whom she prayerfully supported. Known as a prayer warrior, Dorothy had a handful of prayer partners throughout her life who she regularly met with to seek God on behalf of others and was a part of multiple prayer chains. Throughout the years, Dorothy loved spending time with and investing in her family. She was regularly involved in church activities corporately worshiping her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dorothy’s other interests included travelling, sewing, and spending time in the kitchen cooking and canning produce from the garden.
Dorothy is preceded in death by both parents and her younger brother and only sibling, as well as her loving husband of 58 years and second son, David. Dorothy is survived by three children, Charles (Kathleen), Arletta (Gary), and Jon (Michelle), 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

May the God of all comfort, comfort you.
I remember Jon sharing with me when he was a boy, his mom taught him Luke 2:52 and explained that he too, like Jesus could grow and find favor with God and man. I love that! What a beautiful way she passed along her faith! And I believe her words came true as I have seen Jon’s character.
My wife and I raised six children. I taught them the same thing when they were growing up. We now teach children’s church, and I pass along to the children Luke 2:52, thanks to Mrs. Pirie!
Charles, Arletta, and Jon,
You have my deepest sympathy. Your mom is one of my favorite cousins. She was such a caring person, and always seemed to call me at the right times when I needed to talk with someone close. You have my love, thoughts, and prayers.
Sincerely from, Ora Lee
To all of Dorothy’s family,
Dorothy and I worked together at Meadow Lane Elementary for several years in the 1970s where I taught fourth grade. She and Jim were such wonderful, faithful people. I saw her influence on the children in our class, as well as, adults with which she worked. She definitely walked the walk. Her love for the Lord was apparent in everything she did. I know the entire family has to realize how very blessed you were to have her in your lives. What a beautiful example of a Christian woman she was to me. One year for Christmas, she gave me two red teardrop ornaments that she and Jim had on their tree in their early marriage. It was such a sweet gift. I think of them both every year as I still hang those ornaments on our tree. Sweet memories.
Thinking of all of you,
Pat Turner
I just learned of her passing. Dorothy was my very long time friend, encourage r, prayer warrior. I as so glad to know she is with her savior and Lord, but I miss her already.
One is always thankful for meeting beautiful people in your lifetime and Dorthy and James both are just that, beautiful people. I didn’t see them much but anytime my sister had a get together at her house I enjoyed visiting with them both. Like James, she will be missed by many!
So sorry to hear of Dorothy passing away.i have had some corresponding with her. This past year. I am one of her classmates of 1957 graduating class. I think there are only three of us left. I am also a Christian and will look forward to seeing her again in heaven. Condolences to all of you of her family Gol bless all of you.

Psalm 139 says the Lord has laid out your path. I’m so blessed that God put Dorothy in my life. She and Jim invested in me when I was in High School, and took me to church, and got me involved in Youth for Christ. They treated me like I was a part of the family. She is a great reminder of what walking with the Lord looks like in everyday living. I’m glad she’s home with the Lord and Jim. She will be missed.
