Obituary
Dorothy Jean Gray, 77, of Independence, Missouri, went home to the Lord on January 18, 2018. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at 9420 James A Reed Rd, Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial will follow at the Laurel Oaks Cemetery in Windsor, Missouri. A visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Contingency Fund.
Jean was born on May 1st, 1940 in Henry County, Missouri to Paul E. and Opal (Owen) Austin. Jean attended Clinton, Missouri High School for one year and graduated from Windsor High School in 1957. She married James Kenneth Gray, Jr. on June 7, 1957.
She worked for the IRS and was a homemaker. Jean was a longtime member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary M. East. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim; one daughter, DeLisa K. Hicks (Mike); two grandchildren, Shanna K. Evans (Clint) and Austin M. Hicks (Nina); one brother, Paul Austin; one sister, Janice Adams; three great grandchildren, Sophie Hicks, Grayson Evans, and Brynn Hicks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
