Obituary
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on September 21st at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lexington, Ohio, for Elsie Adeline Chancellor DeWolf, who passed to eternal life on August 24, 2024.
Elsie was born in Rockledge, Pennsylvania on June 14, 1927, to Arthur Cook Chancellor and Elizabeth Wilhelmina (Grather) Chancellor. She lived in Rockledge through high school, having attended high school in Lower Moreland, Pennsylvania. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Wagner College, Staten Island, New York, and thereafter worked at Staten Island Hospital. She also worked at Jeanes Hospital and Children’s Hospital, both in Philadelphia. Having earned a Public Health Nursing certificate at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked with the Visiting Nurse Society of Philadelphia as both a staff nurse and then assistant supervisor.
She married Leland Cooley DeWolf on May 11, 1957, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Philadelphia, Robesonia, PA, Menominie, WI, Cortland, OH, and Lexington, OH, as her husband’s profession in the rehabilitation field prompted several moves. While in Robesonia, she worked for a time at the Reading Rehabilitation Center. Upon retirement, they moved to Roswell, NM first and then finally to Lee’s Summit, MO, to be near their daughter.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Amy Scism (Rick Scism); son, Neil DeWolf (Dyan DeWolf); and grandchildren, Corey Beaubian (Dibian Beaubian), Kathren McKean (Dustin McKean), Kyle DeWolf, Andrew Scism, and Julia Scism.
Also surviving are nephew Phillip P. DeWolf (Mary Jo DeWolf); niece Marcia Bosek (Jim Bosek); and great-nieces and nephew, Marie DeWolf Hettinger, Phillip L. DeWolf, and Jacquelyn (Jacqi) DeWolf Aubrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland C. DeWolf, her sister, Gertrude Miller, and her brother-in-law, George Miller.
Elsie was a lifelong church member, with her most recent affiliation at First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit. She sang in church choirs throughout her life and volunteered at many church events and activities. She was a fantastic seamstress, making clothing for family, as well as banners and altar linens for the various churches she attended. She was a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood, Chapter K. She and Lee enjoyed traveling to visit family and took several cruises after retirement, including sails to Hawaii, Alaska and the Panama Canal. She also began watercolor painting in retirement and participated in several art displays, much to her delight.
