Erma Elaine Bliss

February 9, 1933 - July 1, 2022

Obituary

Erma Elaine (Ulander) Bliss passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus, on Friday, July 1, 2022. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with service following at 11:00 am, both at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, MO.  Internment will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grain Valley, Missouri.

Erma was born on February 9, 1933, in Wahoo, NE, to Carl and Vada (Hageman) Ulander. She graduated high school from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, MN, and was married soon after to the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Emerson Bliss, on June 16, 1951.

Erma worked as a private secretary for over 30 years at a chemical company in Denver, CO. Erma and Bob shared a great love of adventure and travel and were blessed to have visited all 50 states and all seven continents together. Several of those trips were shared with their children and grandchildren. Their faith and friendships formed at church were always a significant part of their lives throughout their marriage.

Erma leaves behind her dear husband of 71 years, Robert (Bob); their children, Linda (Mark) Snyder; Darlene (Rick) Rieder; and Karna (Jeff) Binkley; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Vern Ulander; grandson, Steven Snyder; and great-granddaughter, Joella Conrad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Interlink Ministries, Jim and Karen Esson; and Samaritan’s Purse.

My deepest condolences to the family of Erma Bliss

Being friends with Erma’s daughter, Linda, for 50 years, I have had the opportunity to know Erma and spend time with her. She enjoyed talking and laughing with family and friends. She was always so welcoming to me when I would visit her home with Linda during my college and single days. Through the years since then she has expressed interest in my life, my marriage, and children. I have had the joy of vicariously traveling the world with her and Bob as they regularly sent me pictures and greetings. I am grateful to have known her and to reap the rewards of her dedication and love to her family, especially Linda. May she rest in peace in the arms of her Lord who she loved and served all of her life.

Karna and family please accept our sincere sympathy.
What a blessing to know she is with our Lord and Savior.
May wonderful memories console you.
“Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee.” Isaiah 26:3
“Trust in the Lord forever for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26:4

I loved so many things about Erma, but one was her wonderful sense of humor. She understood my humor too and I always wrote stories just hoping she was reading that particular one. I must have every Christmas letter she sent out and notes in between. I have a picture of her way up high, painting a garage in Costa Mesa, California at the apartments that housed Wycliffe missionaries on furlough. She and her husband were faithful friends and supporters for at least 26 years, perhaps more. There was nothing she wouldn’t do as a volunteer and she was a walking example of the love of Christ. I love her so very much and look forward to seeing her again someday in heaven.

I am so sorry erma passed away. I pray the lord will be with the family during this time of grieving. I pray that Christs hand will be on bobs and Karna during this time also. I love them both. It was such a blessing to know Erma.

I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you as you honor the life, legacy and love of Mrs. Bliss.
In Christ
Jim Milner
