Obituary
Frances L. Groceman, 89, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023, after a brief battle with pneumonia. Frances was born on April 8, 1934, the only child of Clifford and Phoebe Stratton. She grew up in Quincy, Illinois and attended college in Texas. Frances had a love for all things fashion and Texas, she would tell stories of having to get a trailer to move back home just to carry her shoes. Most of the stories she would tell of living in Texas were of great shopping and nights with her girlfriends.
Frances was an accountant at Systems Machinery and Equip for over 20 years where she was able to meet so many people, she would create a lifetime’s worth of memories with. The work that she was most proud of was owning her own dress shop in Downtown Lee’s Summit. She was able to curate pieces to build out collections and loved getting to help dress those that came into her store. She especially loved her granddaughters coming in for visits where they would talk and eat Chex-Mix together. When she wasn’t at her shop, she and her granddaughters would love the dress up fashion shows they would put on with all of grandma’s closet!
Frances leaves behind two sons, Rex and Darren; daughters-in-law Katy, Karen and Rachell Groceman; granddaughters Lauren Fannin and her husband Brandon, Phoebe, Kaylee, and Kiera Groceman and Dena Slusher and her fiancé Kodey; grandson Anthony, his wife Jammie and their two children; niece Debbie Groceman and her son Chance Aldrich.
Preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Phoebe Stratton, husband Dwayne and son Beau Groceman.
Frances had a way of keeping everyone entertained with stories of her younger years, her son’s sporting activities and most recently her granddaughters and their lives. She will be greatly missed by her family who will always be able to hear her say “well it’s just one of those things.”
A family service will be held in Lee’s Summit to honor and remember the life of Frances Groceman.

My heartfelt condolences to the Groceman family. Frances was a wonderful lady – always so warm and welcoming. I appreciated her strength, spunky attitude, sharp wit and perseverance. In reading her history, I see a lot of Phoebe in her story. She’s had generational impact which is a special gift to those she loved. She will be missed!
