Frank Hanis

Obituary

On October 28, 2023, Frank Hanis, age 81, passed away unexpectedly. Formerly a resident of Kansas City, KS, Shawnee, KS, and Houston, TX, Frank had made Lee’s Summit, Missouri, his final home. A proud 1964 graduate of The University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Sciences, Frank had a diverse career, including employment with Midwest Research Institute and Amoco Oil, culminating in a well-deserved retirement in Lee’s Summit.

Frank’s zest for life extended to his passion for tennis, where he found joy and camaraderie, and he reveled in the strategic world of Monopoly and checkers, engaging in spirited matches with his granddaughter, Avery.

In mourning his loss are his beloved wife of 58 years, Elaine Hanis (Flynn); sons Steve (Kerry) and Mark (Jennifer Whittenburg); brother Bill (Allene), and cherished granddaughter Avery.

Arrangements were by Langsford Funeral Home. No memorial service is planned at this time.

My deepest condolences to Elaine, Mark and Steve and their families. Frank was always so fun to be around! So positive and someone I deeply admired! Trips to Houston to visit were always a fun time. God bless. Love Kristy Koscielny McKechnie

Elaine, I just heard of Frank passing. Naomi just told me since I don’t look often on facebook anymore. I was just thinking about talking to Frank again. I hope it was a peaceful passing. The next time I get a chance to talk to Frank will be when I eventually pass away. Perhaps in a poker game in heaven with Nick and Burt. He was the last of my best friends and his passing leaves a big hole in my heart. I hope you and the boys and your grandkids are well.
Always with love,

I am very sorry to hear about Frank’s passing. Best future wishes for Elaine, Mark and Steve and their families. I will always cherish my memories I had with Frank.

I was so sorry to hear about Frank. Wish we could have gotten together when we were down there for Rita’s memorial. Sunday is a celebration of life for Roy’s daughter. She passed away from cancer a few weeks ago. Gayle was 56.

I mainly knew Frank from our many hours together on the tennis courts, but I always found him to be a really good guy and a lot of fun to spend time with. I’ll always remember him fondly and I will miss him. God bless.

I am so sorry for your loss, Elaine. You and your family are missing him so much, I am sure!
Thanks to Frank’s love for tennis I was able to become acquainted with him and eventually you. I along with many others in our tennis group have many fond memories of playing tennis with him. You and Frank were so sweet to open up your home to my family and me for a delicious dinner and a fun night afterwards a number of years ago. May the love and support of family and friends help you through this difficult time, Elaine. If I can help you in anyway, please feel free to call me. I will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers 🙏. My sincere condolences to you,
Vicki Ford

Precious Elaine and family. Frank was a gentle, kind, generous man who is deeply loved. We enjoyed spending time whether in Missouri or Michigan, and laughing till it hurt. Memories are so precious to us all. Hugs. Hugs. Hugs.
