Obituary

Genevieve (Jennie) Kathryn Carpenter, 97, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, in Lee’s Summit. She was born December 20, 1924, in Bowen, Missouri, the daughter of Ralph E. and Anna L. (Newman) Smith. On November 10, 1945, she married John E. Carpenter in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jennie worked for the Social Security Administration and assisted John in the development of lumber companies over the years. They were members of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit. She enjoyed and formed dear friendships while bowling for decades of her life. She and John enjoyed dancing, traveling, and hosting family and friends at their lake home. She was an avid swimmer and water skier. Many fur babies were loved dearly by Jennie over the years, and especially Oreo.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and an extended family who doted on and loved her including Ilene Arndt, Glenn Lee Smith (Carolyn), Alice Byerley, all of Lee’s Summit, Linda Craig, Louise Binger, David Binger (Judy), Dan Binger (Brenda) all of Independence, Robert Smith (Teresa), Marilyn Mochel (Steve) all of Windsor, and Debbie Echoff of Cole Camp. She is also survived by John’s family including sister-in-law Carol Carpenter of Kansas City, and nieces and nephews including Roy Carpenter (Nettie) of Raymore, Marlin Thomas of Lee’s Summit, Darryl Carpenter of Lone Jack, Darlene Carpenter (Tammy) of Independence, Chris Carpenter, Carrie Carpenter, Maury Carpenter, Lance Carpenter (Sheila) of Kansas City, Belinda Miller of Smithville, Duff Carpenter (Nelda) of New Sharon, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, brother Wilbert Smith and his wife Mary Hazel, sister Gladys Binger and her husband David, brother Glenn Smith and his wife Alice, brothers-in-law Marvin (Bub) Carpenter and J. B. Carpenter.

Visitation will be held at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, MO, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, immediately followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. with interment at the Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Village Hospice.
