Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Peter Lynch, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026.
Jerry was born December 7, 1944, in Evanston, Illinois, to Lionel Gregory and Evelyn Dorothy (Koppers) Lynch. He grew up in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, and attended St. George High School.
He served in the United States Air Force in Germany from 1964 to 1968 as a Staff Sergeant. On October 4, 1969, he married his beloved wife, Patricia “Patty” Ann (Howard) Lynch. Together, they built a wonderful life and shared 56 years of marriage, living in Liberty, Missouri; Overland Park, Kansas; and Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Jerry attended the University of Missouri–Kansas City and Rockhurst College. In 1978, he studied at the Electronic Computer Programming Institute (ECPI), discovering a passion for technology that led to a long career as a Computer Programming Manager for Kansas City Southern Railroad until his retirement.
He was an avid golfer, reader, photographer, and gardener who also enjoyed astronomy, music, grilling barbecue, and making his special chili. He remained a dedicated Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Lifelong dog lovers, Jerry and Patty owned several dogs, including a Doberman, “Mike,” and several Labrador Retrievers over the years. Some of his fondest memories were made traveling with his family, from adventures in Spain, Ireland, and Morocco to many vacations in the California Bay Area to visit his daughter and family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Phillip “Phil” Gregory Lynch.
He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, including his devoted wife, Patricia “Patty” Ann Lynch; his daughter, Megan Elizabeth Lynch; his son-in-law, Kayce Schwendiman Davis; and his two treasured grandchildren, Leo Ezra Lynch Davis and Gustav “Gus” George Lynch Davis. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Norman Wayne Howard (wife Karon); his sister-in-law, Mary “Mimi” (Ward) Maloney (widow of Phillip Lynch); four loving nephews: Paul (Melody) Lynch, Connor (Dana) Lynch, James (Teresa) Lynch, and Peter (Jennifer) Lynch; as well as 5 grandnieces and 8 grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Warrensburg Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg, MO 64093.
