In Memory of

Helen Catherine (Greathouse) Earl

Obituary

Helen Catherine Earl, 97, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away at 3:08 AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Edgewood Nursing Home in Raytown, Missouri. Catherine was born in Royalton, Illinois on June 24, 1922 to George F. Greathouse and Bertha M. Jones.

Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Mrs. Earl delighted in service to the Lord as a pastor’s wife and Sunday School teacher and served on the board for Women’s Missionary Society as well as other church positions. She was a librarian, and was the assistant director of the Carthage Library.

Her son George wrote about her: “Mother was one of a kind and a woman of remarkable strength.” She led by example, showing James and me how we should live our life with integrity, honesty and love. “She set the bar awfully high but we strive to reach it daily.” We knew she prayed for us daily and we felt her protective prayer throughout our lives. We were so blessed to have her in our lives all these years, and we love you and will miss you on earth but know you are in heaven.

Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, The Reverend H. G. Earl and her sister, Ann Washburn. She is survived by her sons, James (Vicky) and George (Bonnie); Granddaughters, Hallie Young (Paul) and Lisa Earl, Jody Haney (Kevin), Susan Miranda (Rey), Nancy Bankston (Matthew); eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A visitation is scheduled from 9:00 AM – 11:00AM at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. A graveside service will follow at Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee’s Summit. Memorials are suggested to the Hope Chapel Church of Lee’s Summit.
