Obituary

Jack Donald Parsons, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026.

Jack graduated with an engineering degree specializing in machine design. After his children were grown, he pursued a degree in computer programming. The IT project that gave him the most satisfaction was with the USDA’s Food for Peace program. The United States buys surplus crops from American farmers and sells them at a greatly discounted rate to nations in need. Jack’s responsibility was with the software that kept track of the payments. He often explained why the project was so meaningful to him by saying, “When people aren’t hungry, they fight a lot less.”

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Luvena Parsons, whom he greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Anita Byrne; his son, Darrell Parsons; his grandchildren, Carla Cline and Natalie Parsons; his son-in-law, Jeremy Byrne; his stepsons, Tron Lally, Travis Lally, and Trevor Lally; and many other family members and friends.

During their retirement, Jack and Luvena became skilled square dancers. They attended Briarcliff Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

One of Jack’s most beloved memories was his time serving on a church bus route in the late 1970s. On Saturdays, Jack and his family went to the parks and neighborhoods of Riverside, Missouri, to meet children and invite them to church. On Sundays, he conducted the bus route, collecting 30 or more children and bringing them to church and Sunday School.

Jack was very intelligent and a lover of science. He constantly taught his children about how the universe works. His humor was his delight and brought joy to those around him.

Jack knew Jesus personally and believed the Word of God above all else. His family takes comfort in the assurance that they will see him again in heaven.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
