James “Jim” Elmer Robbins

Obituary

James Elmer “Jim” Robbins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 31, 2026, at the age of 85.

Jim was born on April 12, 1941, in Stanford, Kentucky, to Clyde and Sissie Robbins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Jo Moore, and his brother Lawrence Robbins.

On November 18, 1963, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Delores. Together they shared more than 62 years of marriage and raised two sons, Steve (Michelle) and John (Sarah). In 1964, Jim and Delores moved to Michigan, where they built their life and raised their family.

Jim retired from Hostess in 2001, but his greatest joys were found in his faith, his family, and the things he loved.

In 1973, a neighbor invited Jim and Delores to church, an invitation that would have a lasting impact on Jim’s life. That year, Jim gave his life to the Lord and became an active and devoted member of his church. For many years, he was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Warren, Michigan, until he and Delores relocated to the Kansas City area in 2020. His faith was an important part of who he was and the legacy he leaves with his family.

Jim was a man who enjoyed having a good time and was never shy about letting people know what he thought. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a touch of sarcasm that could catch you off guard. He loved making people laugh, sometimes without even trying.

He was especially proud of his bowling accomplishments. Jim bowled three perfect 300 games, a fact he was more than happy to share with anyone who would listen—and probably a few people who didn’t ask. He loved bowling and took great pride in being good at it.

Jim also had a love for looking good. If something caught his eye, his signature response was, “That’s SHARP!” And if Jim himself was looking particularly good, you could count on hearing, “I look sharp, don’t I?” Those who knew him can probably hear him saying it even now.

He was a devoted Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan and a loyal Michigan Wolverines football fan. He loved his Buick, too, and enjoyed getting behind the wheel and taking long drives. He also took great pride in his lawn and kept it looking just right.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Delores; his sons, Steve (Michelle) Robbins and John (Sarah) Robbins; his grandchildren, Marissa (Tyler) Hodges, Alec (Morgan) Robbins, Grant (Breana) Robbins, Carly Robbins, and Jack Robbins; and his great-grandchildren, Lane and Charlie Hodges, Axel, Tobin, Laiklynn, Emory, Ezekiel, and Mylah Robbins.

He is also survived by his sister, Kathy (Gene) Laware; nieces Vicky (Scott) Stacks and Shirley (Mike) Minor; nephew James Moore, and several dear family friends.

Jim will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who was deeply loved. His friends and family find comfort in knowing that the faith he embraced in 1973 remained a meaningful part of his life and that he is now at peace with his Lord and Savior.

He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Dear Robbins family,
Everybody loved Jim, The Rev. He and Delores started a wonderful legacy of life and love. It will continue on and on. I feel privileged to have had them living right next door to me for many years. Rev was kind and thoughtful, humble and loyal. My heart goes out to sweet Delores. Married since 1963, this is the biggest, hardest adjustment for her as well as the family. Rev was one of a kind , a gem, a treasure. It was rare to see him without a smile on his face. I love you all and hope that you will find peace in your hearts once again.
Always, Lisa Provo

I’m very sorry for everyone’s loss. I have very fond memories of Uncle James. You are all in my thoughts & prayers.

Love always,
James (Moe) Moore

I met Jim when I came to the dialysis place. Not such a great place to go but I always look forward to coming to dialysis to visit with Jim and Dolores. It was our fun little chat time just before we went in for treatment. Jim was such a sweet man and Dolores always took care of him so well. I will miss him deeply. I’m praying that Dolores still continues to be strong and beautiful as the person she is ❤️💐 knowing that she’s loved always. Love Cindy

I grew up next door to the Robbins in Hazel Park Michigan on Coy. I always thought Jim was a funny and nice guy. I was good friends with Steve. My maiden name is Wright. I am so very sorry for everyone’s loss. May you take comfort in your memories and peace in knowing Jim is with the Lord. Christine (Wright) Pollak

Mrs. Robbin’s, Steve, John and family,
I was very sad to hear of Mr. Robbin’s passing. Growing up with John, I can’t remember a time I didn’t see a smile on his face or a laugh coming from him, even when he is being stern with us. My eternal vision of him is the way his whole body seemed to be involved when he would laugh.
Steve and John, having lost my own Father, I can understand the pain you both feel. Hold strong to those memories you’ve made, and you’ll find yourself reaching for the phone to tell him something more often than you think. Keep your heads up, and keep being the men he knew you could be.

I sure loved Jim and Delores. They were our church members for many years.
I was so saddened to hear of his passing, but I know for sure he’s in heaven and I will see him again
I will be in prayer for this dear family.

“J.R.”, as some affective called him… he and I had a special comraderie. I told him if I happen to bowl a 300 this year, like he did 3 times (which would be a miracle for me), I was going to dedicate it to him. We often talked about Biblical passages and Biblical issues. He was a great man of faith and I enjoyed his fellowship and friendship. J.R., you will be missed! Praying for you, Delores.

Dearest Robbins Family! James and Delores and Steve were part of my growing up years. Moved next door in about 1970-we became fast friends! James was always up for kick ball after dinner, gathered all the kids (and we had a lot) I have a flood of memories. Water fights.
My Mom invited James and Delores to Church😎and for that I know James Robbins is in Heaven. He asked Christ into his heart♥️
My heart and prayers go out to all of you!
Delores, you took care of James like a baby👍🏻
A great Sister Kathy LaWare always looking out for Brother!
Thank you God for putting them as neighbors and friends all my life!
Love you Delores♥️💔
