In Memory of

Jeffrey James Wingo

February 8, 1975 - February 7, 2025

Obituary

Jeffrey James Wingo, known to lots as T-Rex or Rex, unexpectedly passed away on February 7, 2025 on the day prior to his 50th birthday.

Jeff was born February 8, 1975 in North Kansas City, MO.  He became an official Wingo family member on 2/13/1975 to proud parents Jim and Cheryle Wingo.

Jeff was involved in many activities growing up that included:  Boy scouts, softball, piano/keys, trumpet, choir, guitar, and Martial arts.  In his teens, he was involved in Circle-C camp and KC Youth for Christ where he was a part of their praise team playing keys/guitar and singing.  He earned his Eagle Scout and received the award on March 1,1992.  He graduated from Liberty Highschool in 1993 and he went-on to Northwest Missouri State University initially to major in music performance.  He had an accident when working construction and he took a little time off school.  During this time he found his passion for computer science.  He returned to Northwest Missouri State University where he graduated  in December 1999 with a Bachelor in Computer Science degree.  He then moved back to the KC Area and started working for Bensoft and then for Nations Holding/FMC/GTT in Overland Park.

He went on to meet the love of his life, the apple of his eye, Heather in 2003 and they started dating August 4, 2004.  They married November 26, 2005 and lived in Lee’s Summit, MO.  Both enjoyed life, between playing music on praise teams at church, riding motorcycles, riding bicycles, fishing, kayaking, and traveling (favorite was Moab, Utah).  In the midst of this, Jeff made a big life career change.  He studied for 3 months and took an exam in August 2011 and passed.  This was for CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).  As Jeff would put it, the exam was tougher than the bar would be for a lawyer and “I did it in 3 months”.  Jeff then joined the UMB infosec (information security) team in March 2012.  He thoroughly enjoyed the team that he had the pleasure to work with and the challenges that would come their way.

Jeff is predeceased in death by his father Jim, his uncle Wayne, and his doggie children Dixie, Little Abner and Daisy Mae.  He is survived by his wife Heather and pupper Cooper; his mother Cheryle; his sister Amy; his aunt Debbie; his cousins Megan and Jesse and Jesse’s wife Becca.

Services are planned for Saturday, March 15th at First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit in Lee’s Summit, MO (2 NE Douglas Street, 64063).  Visitation will start at 10 am and the Celebration of Jeff’s life and memories will begin at 11:30 am.

I was shocked to hear Jeff had passed away. He was a very talented young man in Youth Group. I had the privilege of being one of his Youth Leaders at Avondale Baptist Church.
He always amazed me with his keyboard talent.
I live in Florida so will not be able to attend but just know you are in my prayers.I know it will be a hard day. But we know He is in Heaven. And that is such a peace to have as believers.
Sincerely
Susie

Carol and I are so deeply sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate this most difficult journey.

So sorry to hear about Jeff. He was always so helpful to his Mom.
I will be praying for you. It is always a comfort to know that you will
see him again.

Love to you
Sharon

Heather, we were so very sad to hear of Jeff’s unexpected passing. What an extraordinary gift of musical talent he had, and we were always blessed by it. We also loved bumping into the two of you in the last few years, and sharing some smiles and memories. Sincere condolences from Julian and me, as well as our son Chris, who enjoyed knowing and working with Jeff at Nations. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

Cheryle and Family,

Remembering your precious family from Avondale. Hold on to the memories. Sending love. Listen to Alan Jackson’s ‘I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You.’

Kelly and Duke McDonald

We are so sorry to hear about Jeff’s passing, and Heather, that you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. My brother Randy and I have great memories being his “backup band” when we had the YFC activities at Sherwood Bible Church in the mid 90’s. We will always remember his infectious smile and uplifting spirit he brought to all. May the Lord comfort you all.

We had the privilege of being next door neighbors to Jeff and Heather for many years and enjoyed the friendship and fun they were always ready to share with us. We bonded over our mutual love for our fur babies and we appreciated their spirit of adventure and youthful exuberance.

Jeff is now safe in his heavenly home in the arms of Jesus and his beloved Heather will by God’s grace continue to be the strong and lovely soul that is so cherished by all.

So sorry Heather to hear you have to walk through this valley. Stay so very close Jesus he will carry you when you can’t walk. He will walk with you when and hole your hand when you need a friend. We will be praying for you. Jim and I road motor cycles with you guys when we meet at 1st Baptist church several years ago may God bless you and keep you safe.
