In Memory of

Jennifer Lynn Walker

May 2, 1965 - October 10, 2023

Obituary

In loving memory of Jennifer Lynn Walker, age 58, of Independence, MO, who peacefully passed away on October 10, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite the challenges she faced, Jennifer’s spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to wear a warm smile that reflected her enduring love for her family and friends.

Jennifer was born in Calgary Canada, May 2nd, 1965.  She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and cousin who touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1983 and continued her education at the University of Central Missouri, graduating in 1987.   She spent the next 35 years as a teacher and administrator focusing on early childhood development.

Jennifer was a true embodiment of selflessness. She was a fierce advocate for those she loved, a caring soul with a sense of humor that could light up the darkest of rooms. She was assertive in her beliefs, and her convictions were unwavering. Her sense of humor was infectious, and her intelligence shone in her conversations.

Her greatest gift was her ability to care for others without expecting anything in return. Her kindness was boundless, and her generosity knew no limits. She had an uncanny knack for making those around her feel seen, valued, and loved. Her presence was large, and she made sure to include you in her orbit. She brought warmth and comfort to those in need, always offering a shoulder to lean on and a listening ear.

Jennifer was never a pet lover nor an outdoor enthusiast early in life, but that all changed when she met Suess, and then Moxie, her beloved dogs.  Suddenly the allergies were gone and drool on the clothes was a common fashion accessory; she understood what a pet could do for the soul.  Likewise, as the family grew and new generations discovered the lake, she officially started the moniker known as the Lake Lizards, which she happily presided over, and the transformation was complete.   She was the beacon and glue for our family.

Her true joy and happiness in life came from her family – she is survived by her brother, Vincent Walker, nephew Andrew Walker, wife Laura Walker, son Henry, son Patrick, nephew Austin Walker, wife Bailey Walker, niece Abigail Walker, nephew Adam Walker.

A visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2023, at Langsford Funeral Home. A private graveside service for immediate family only will follow the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to H8Cancer.org

I hit the send message button by accident on my previous post, Jennifer probably got a chuckle out of that. She knew I was never that great on texting, my fingers are too big and the keyboard is too small. So we talked on the phone 📞.
My prayers are with the family as they celebrate Jennifer’s life and the joy she has brought to each one of us.
God bless and comfort you with the knowledge that she is in Heaven with her mom and dad preparing a lesson plan for us when we join her.
See you soon my beautiful niece. ❤️

Vince and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate this change to your family structure. The loss is huge. Jennifer was such a presence in all the lives she touched including mine. May she watch over all of us now with an even larger presence than we can know until we see her again.

It is with deep sorrow that I have learned the passing of Jen. She was not only my boss but my teacher and colleague.
I served on the committee that hired her to the Independence school district and was glad to have here in charge.
You all are in my prayers.

Dear Vince and Walker Family, please accept our sympathy and love. We remember Jenny a lovely and welcoming. She gave to all. Vince, A big hug for you. Jennys’ loss is a big one. Our wish is the love continues. Rest in Peace Jenny Jeanne and Larry

Dear Vince and family, My continuos thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. I feel privileged to have had Jenny in my life and to call her my friend. We met at UCM (CMSU) and have been friends ever since. A couple of weeks ago she told me “ I will always be with you, Merita” I know in my heart she always will be. That is just the way she was always thinking of others 🙏🏻and making sure those she loved were OK ❤️ Love, peace and hugs.

I am so sorry to hear about Jennifer. She was a terrific colleague, never tiring of learning. She seemed to make hard work fun! I will miss her. Matia

Jennifer was someone who was filled with divine love. Just being in her presence was joy. She was instrumental in healing me. I’m 5 1/2 years a breast cancer survivor and she was instrumental in healing me. She always used to say this is just a plot twist Jennifer you’re on to bigger and greater things in heaven and another world. I love you thanks for being my friend.

I worked with Jennifer at the Francis Institute for Child and Youth Development. I was hired maybe about six months to a year before her. She built up and stood for school-age children at the Institute. I haven’t seen her since I retired, but I will always have fond memories of her and her smile! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!
