Obituary
Jo Ann Meek passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026 at a Lee’s Summit assisted living facility. She was born on October 23, 1933 in Holden, Missouri, the second daughter of Joseph and Ona Mae Walters.
Jo Ann graduated from Holden High School and married Jack D. Meek on January 10, 1952. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri shortly after. She began a career with Kansas City Life Insurance Company in the Actuarial Department, retiring after 25+ years of service, becoming a member of their Quarter Century Club.
She and Jack enjoyed traveling to casinos, playing in (and winning one) slots tournaments. After retirement, they went on cruises with family and friends frequently. Jo Ann was an avid quilter and sewer, stitching many quilts by hand, and creating Barbie doll clothes for her daughter and granddaughter. She enjoyed bingo games at the American Legion Hall in Blue Springs, and was a member of the American Legion Forty and Eight Women’s Auxiliary.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and grandson, Orson Roth III. She is survived by her children, Tom (Pam) Meek and Patti Johnson, her grandchildren, Amy (Ben) Deane, Scott Johnson, RJ Meek, and Allison (Preston) Meek, and three great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of life will occur later this spring when she is interred with Jack at the Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care given to Jo Ann by the Ascend Hospice Care and Addington Place staff during her time with them.
