Obituary
John Charles Avery, 75, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Village House Hospice in Lee’s Summit.
John was raised in Burlington, Kansas where his father was the superintendant of schools and his mother taught the piano. He was enlisted in the United States Army as a gunsmith and was stationed in Germany. He attended Emporia State College and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in photojournalism. He was a staff photographer at a paper in Jersey City, New Jersey, and at the Wichita Eagle. He also was the former owner of Avery’s Old Time Photo Studio and Sarah’s Attic souvenir shop at Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, Kansas. He was the current owner of Avery Postcards and Souvenir.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Avery of Germany.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara Avery of Colorado and nephew, Thomas Avery of Germany.
I’m so very sorry to hear of John’s passing. I only knew him when he came to the post office to mail his postcards. I will miss our chats. My thoughts and prayers to his entire family.
