John Christopher Ryan

Obituary

John Christopher Ryan our father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on December 26,2025. He was born on December 19,1934 to Ed and Sarah Ryan in Kansas City, Missouri.

John grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and attended Rockhurst High School and graduated in 1951 at the age of 16. While working at Western Electric, John continued his education at Rockhurst University, graduating with a Bachelor of Administration degree.

John married Jane Moore on April 27, 1957. Together they had four children, Chris (Terri), Dan (Deni), Susan (Jeff) Richardson, Jenny (Rick) Stebbins. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Our dad was very proud of his Irish roots.   He always had many fun mischievous stories about his upbringing in Kansas City and the farm in Shawnee, Kansas.  Those stories have kept his family forever entertained.  John loved to work with his grandkids, teaching them to build lattices or replace boards on the deck.  He was an excellent woodworker but would always remind them they didn’t have to be perfect by saying “We’re not building furniture”. John also liked to call his property Procrastination Estates. He was always happy to work for an hour or two and then his favorite part was getting a drink and talking in the gazebo with his recruited helpers. Dad loved the many hours that were spent as a family enjoying the pool and harvesting the garden that he planted for the family.

A funeral service will be held at Holy Spirit Church in Lee’s Summit on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. burial service will be at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens in Lee’s Summit at 2:00pm

Uncle Johnny was the best! Always helping others, giving away his crops, hosting pool parties, and “organizing” his workshop. He will be missed ❤️ Till we meet again…

Uncle Johnny will be missed. He was such a kind and genuine man who lived life to its fullest. Loved walking thru his garden with him and hearing all about his crops. I’ll never forget running into him in the city. Nothing stopped him! I can only imagine the reunion you are having with your brothers, parents and cousins in heaven. Much love – Laura and family.

We will miss John coming to the bank, he was one of our favorite customers. He would tell us stories of the grandkids and bring us tomatoes in the summer. Our sincerest condolences to the family.

Condolences to the Ryan family. Mr. Ryan was a great man. I hold many fond memories with him and the Ryan family growing up in Lee Summit.

It is with sadness to hear of John’s passing. Our hearts go out to Susan and Jeff Richardson. My condolences and prayers for the families. He was an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life. May he rest in peace.

We are very sorry for the loss of dear, sweet Johnny. He was definitely an entertaining man who cared deeply for his family. We recall John welcoming us to his home on many occasions and seeing his bountiful garden and pool where the grandchildren had many fun times. He was always friendly and we had many good conversations with him at various family gatherings. We pray fond memories will help ease the family’s pain in this loss, and we know he is reunited with Jane in Heaven. The two were a big-hearted couple who raised a special family. Sending our love and condolences.
