John Gerard “Jerry” Sellinger

Obituary

John “Jerry” Sellinger, beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on the morning of October 29, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born on March 31, 1936, to Harry and Edna Sellinger in Rochester, NY.  He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Sellinger (Reed), whom he married in 1958.

Jerry was a devoted father to his three children: Bonnie Nash, Palm Bay FL, Barbara Thompson (Steve), Overland Park, KS and Dave Sellinger, Lee’s Summit, MO. He cherished his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

A skilled lithographer for over 50 years, Jerry established his own business, Chroma-Graphics, in Kansas City in 1977. His passion for his craft was matched only by his love for the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry loved spending time in nature, particularly enjoying turkey hunting and trout fishing. He also found joy in playing horseshoes and bowling, activities that brought him close to friends and family.

Jerry is also survived by his sisters, Joan Denee, Rita Vitalone, and Cathy Sellinger, all from the Rochester NY area, along with many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Navy 8 years, a testament to his dedication and love for his country.

His warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Visitation from 10-11am followed by a funeral service at Our Lady of the Presentation on Friday, November 8. Graveside service immediately after Mass, then lunch to follow at Our Lady of Presentation. All are welcome to come share stories about Jerry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities or Harvesters in his memory.

Dear Sellinger Family,
For all these years, I have never forgotten and the best times, the best neighbors, or the best childhood. My memories of Mr. Sellinger are of a man who was fair, kind and jolly. I remember too, when he would bring the neighborhood kids the images that would shimmer and change images when you moves the up and down. So cool, we thought. However, there is one memory that haunted me for days. It was the day he brought home his kill and hung it in a tree. Although disturbing (Iwas about 6 maybe), he thoughtfully shared why that was the way. I may still not eat venison, but I do remember him well.
My sincerest condolences,
Leslie

I enjoyed learning about Jerry from his obituary. It definitely sounds like he was a great person! I’m sorry for you loss. Thinking of you and your family Barb!

I am very sad to hear this news. Jerry was a fantastic human being. I really loved him. He changed the trajectory of my life when he hired me at Chroma-Graphics. He is one those one-in-a-million special people you come across in life, if you are lucky. I will never forget him.

Haven’t seen Jerry in years but will never forget his warm and welcoming smile. Great neighbor and always willing to help in any way. Remembering all the special times we had on Bluejacket!
To his family… we are so sorry for you loss of this special man.
I know he will be missed by all that knew him.

Words can not describe what a great man Uncle Jerry was.
He will be greatly missed by everyone that lived him. I have many fond memories from my childhood of him.

He will be greatly missed.
My deepest sympathy to all the family.
I love you all.

Our condolences to your family. I had the joy of working for and with Jerry for 10 years at Chroma. He always had a grin and a laugh, a kind word and gentle manner. Jerry played an important part in many peoples lives, mine included, and he will be missed.

Childhood memories may fade away – to be remembered another day-
Cousins playing and having fun – Gerry was the funniest one.
His main goal was terrorizing the “girls”, but we loved it!!

With heartfelt sympathy and many prayers.
