Obituary

John I. Shaffran, 85 of Lee’s Summit, MO. passed away peacefully following a long illness at St. Luke’s Hospice House during the early morning of March 23, 2023. John was born and raised in Traverse City, MI. He joined the Navy in 1958 and married Dorothy Rachaner on December 12, 1959 in Kansas City, MO. John served on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier and lived with Dorothy in Morocco during his time in the service. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1961, John began working at Western Electric and received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Central Technical Institute. After a long career, he retired from AT&T. During
this time, they raised two children in Raytown, MO. where they were longtime parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. John was a beloved husband and father. He was also the ultimate handyman and gardener. In his free time, you could find him tinkering away in his workshop or taking care of the yard. He took great pride in hard work and keeping up his home. He loved fishing with his kids and teaching them how to use tools and fix things. He enjoyed naps in his recliner and never missed dinner with his family.

John is preceded in death by his father, Isadore Shaffran, mother, Beatrice Pahl, stepfather, Lyle Pahl and siblings, Bill, Zettie and Betty Jean.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Shaffran, son, Scott Shaffran, daughter, Cheryl Tulipana (Steve) and brother, Gerald Shaffran.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, April 1 at 9:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 State Route 150, Lee’s Summit, MO. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. What a beautiful life your father lived—loving, faithful and hard-working—dedicated to God and those he cherished. Thank you for sharing about his wonderful life. We are praying for you all. ♥️

Cheryl, We are sorry that we cannot be there for the service but have you and family in our prayers. I did not know your father well (only met at your wedding) but can clearly see the person he was by the ways you have always conducted yourself including your beautiful smile. Take comfort from your extended family in the knowledge that you are loved by all.
Uncle Frank
