John W. Klaus, 90, of Lake Winnebago, MO passed away May 16, 2018 at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, FL. Visitation Wednesday, June 27 from 5 to 8 pm at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, MO. Private family burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
John was born January 16, 1928 in Kansas City, MO to Wally (Bauer) and John N. Klaus. He grew up in Greenwood, MO. Attended Greenwood Elementary School and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1945. He attended the Ohio State University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, a member of Pi Alpha Xi, a member of Gamma Sigma Delta, and a member of the Ohio State Marching Band. He graduated with a BS in Agriculture with an emphasis in Horticulture. After graduation in 1949, he returned to Greenwood to the family business, John Klaus & Sons Greenhouse, Inc. where he was a wholesale grower of blooming plants and premium cut roses until his retirement in 2001. He was president of the Ohio State Florist’s Association, president of the Missouri State Florist’s Association, a member of the Floral Academy of Missouri, a member of SAF, and a member of Roses, Inc.
Upon his retirement, John spent winters at his condominium in Naples, FL and summers at Lake Winnebago, MO.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Wally Klaus; his brother and wife, Bernard A. and Barbara Klaus; and his son, John W. Klaus III. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley J. Klaus (Hoffman); his daughter, Suzanne Klaus and her husband, William D. (Willie) Luebbert of Lake Winnebago, MO and nieces and nephews, and families.
