Obituary

Karen Elaine Scott, age 53, passed away on September 15, 2019 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. She was born on October 13, 1965 in Kansas City, to James Robert Scott and Betty Scott (Steen). Growing up, Karen was an accomplished gymnast and scholar. She loved learning and after graduating from Lee’s Summit High School in 1984, Karen went on to earn Bachelor’s degrees in both Physical Therapy and Nursing. She dedicated her life to helping and caring for others, both professionally and personally. Karen was a fiercely protective big sister, always looking out for her “first baby.” She was also a devoted daughter and mother. Karen proudly insisted that her daughter, Heather, was her “biggest achievement and best accomplishment.” She was a born animal lover, always vowing to have her own “personal zoo” and opening her home to several dogs, cats and critters. Karen loved crafting and sewing, spending countless hours making costumes and homemade Christmas presents. She also loved reading and watching movies, always eager to solve a mystery or explore a new world.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Heather; her parents, JR and Betty Scott; her sister Kelly Mikle (Jerome Mikle); and nephew and niece, Landon and Larissa Mikle.

Funeral services will be held at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit on Friday, September 20, 2019. Visitation will start at 1:00 pm and services will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Midwest Transplant Network.
