Obituary

Keith C. Dixon, 92, died peacefully on the morning of January 17, 2025. He was surrounded by loving family members throughout his illness.

He is survived by his sons and daughter in laws; Robert K. Dixon and Anita Dixon of Oak Hill, VA and Douglas M. Dixon and Shea Dixon of Leawood, KS. The joys of his life were his grandchildren:  Brad Dixon and his wife Ashley, Leslie Dixon, Caitlin Dixon and Colin Dixon. He also had two great granddaughters, Dove and Della Dixon. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Minnick, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn, who passed on his birthday in 2011. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Robert Dixon, Raymond Dixon, Dean Dixon as well as his two sisters, Betty Sheridan and Faye Spangler. He also held a special place in his heart for his cousin, Rosellen Wainscott, and nephew, Roger Dixon, who both recently passed.

Keith was born near Ballard, MO on November 18th, 1932, and lived with his parents Edna Crithfield Dixon and Ernest Dixon until their tragic passing when Keith was 15 years old. He lived with a local family after his parents’ death and graduated from Archie High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served two years. He married Evelyn Griffith Dixon November 21, 1953.   They moved to Lee’s Summit, MO where Keith began his career as carpenter.

Keith soon mastered carpentry and started his career as a custom home builder. He built many homes in the Lee’s Summit area over his 40-year career, including his own home, where he and Evelyn raised their two sons.   Keith loved his church. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. Keith served as a Deacon for over 60 years, a Sunday School Department Director, and as Chairman of the Building Committee for the church sanctuary.

Although he worked hard to nurture his business, Keith enjoyed caring for his lawn and always kept it immaculate.   In his free time, Keith enjoyed traveling to Colorado with his family.   He traveled to several National Parks, as well as Texas, California, Arizona and Washington, D.C. on vacations. In retirement he visited Hawaii, United Kingdom, and Taiwan.  He was a passionate fan of the University of Missouri Tigers sports teams. He had football season tickets for many years and never missed a game on TV after he gave up his tickets.

The family wishes to thank the caring members and staff of First Baptist Church Lee’s Summit for giving Keith joy and contentment throughout his adult life.  Also, the family is thankful for the wonderful physicians and nurses at St. Luke’s-Plaza and the compassionate staff at KC Hospice House who cared for him in his final illness. If you would like to make a memorial gift in Keith’s honor, please convey the donation to First Baptist Church Lee’s Summit or KC Hospice House.

Keith was a great friend as well as Evelyn. We had trips together and so enjoyed their visits and the many fun times we had in Arizona, Colorado and of course here in Missouri. I regarded Keith as one of the finest men I have ever known and respected him as one of the best professionally and as a loyal friend.
Unfortunately, my wife Alyce has health problems that may prevent me from attending his funeral but we will both be there in spirit. We will keep your family in our prayers.

Keith was a lovely gentleman – we always enjoyed him very much. We sat next to him at Bud Hertzog’s funeral and had a lovely conversation. Our deepest condolences to his family.

I always called him Mr. Dixon because he was a man I respected, and he was my friend’s father. I looked up to him and greatly appreciated the kindness he has always shown to me. Throughout my years at First Baptist Church, he has been a leader and a steadfast friendly face. I will truly miss him. Last Sunday, his pew was empty, so I sat there to honor him. I am assured he will be rejoicing in his Heavenly home where he can be with Evelyn once again. My love and prayers are with his family.

Keith will be missed by me and all who knew him. It was encouraging to talk to him. Keith always had a quick smile ready.

We’re so blessed to have known Keith and Evelyn. They were so steady in their faith and service to others in the community. What a joy to see them and know they always had some encouragement to share. May we all remember their gentle spirits and strong walk with the Lord so that we may also live and think differently.

Uncle Keith- you leave quite the legacy with your family. Anyone that knew you knew what a good man you were. We are happy that you are reunited with with Aunt Evelyn. We love you and can’t wait to see you making sure the heavenly grounds are well tended too even though they are already perfect.

Keith was a great man and probably the last of the great men of that generation who set the standard for Christian conduct and Godly living at.First Baptist Church. I will be forever grateful for the example he set and the friendship we shared, not only with me but my whole family. Our parents thought the world of he and Evelyn and the boys and we were blessed to have them In our lives. God bless you Keith- go rest high on that mountain

I had so much respect for Keith. He was a man I admired for his role at church and as a builder. He and Evelyn are sorely missed

Immaculate yard! That is the truth! We will miss seeing our conscientious neighbor in his meticulously cared for yard. He set a standard that’s hard to match. Our condolences to Keith’s loved ones.

I was sorry to hear of Keith’s passing. He built our home in 1972 off of Milton Thompson that was part of Bud Hertzog’s farm. You never had to worry the quality for that anything Keith built – it was always top notch. We always enjyed seeing him at various LS events or around town. He and Evelyn made a great couple and were part of what made living here good.

Thank you so much to all of the people above who posted memories of my Dad. We loved him and knew he was great, but to read this really warms our hearts.

Bob & Doug, we were in Florida and I just heard the news about your dad. Your dad and my dad grew up together and we have many memories of your dad. Our prayers are with you and the hole famy. God bless

Doug and Bob so sorry for your loss I have many memories of your dad and your family! Your mom and dad always welcomed me into their house and were like an extra set of parents…. So glad I got to talk to him at his 90th party and see you all as well…. I rode my bike by his house many times and occasionally would catch him out mowing the lawn and he always greeted me with that great big smile he always had! Lots of great memories
