Obituary

Lan Yan Stallings, 49, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on May 13, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones after five years of battling metastatic colon cancer.  Lan was born on November 18, 1973, in Nantong, China, to Zhengming Yan and Qiang Zhuge.  She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1994, and a master’s in architecture in 1997 from the University of Kansas.  Lan is survived by her parents, Zhengming Yan and Qiang Zhuge; her sister Dawn Yan; her husband Kevin Stallings; and her children, Lilli Yan Stallings, Kiley Sheng Stallings, stepsons Harrison Stallings and Tyler Busby.

Kevin proposed to Lan on the Great Wall of China while on a family trip in March 2001.  They married in October 2002, and have since built a beautiful life together, both personally and professionally.  She initially found success as an investment consultant at American Century, but after having her daughters, she quit her job to devote to being an incredible mother to Lilli and Kiley.  She loved helping at their school Summit Christian Academy, planning birthday parties, family vacations, and watching her children grow up into amazing people.

Lan’s love for interior design, photography, and architecture led her to become an integral part of Kevin’s custom home building business as well.  She took pride and excelled as a designer for his houses and have touched many families in the process of building their dream homes.  Lan put her heart into everything she did, whether it was for family or business, and brought a vibrant energy to every encounter she had.  She won many public accolades through the numerous awards she received as a designer, but what was more important to her was being a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring daughter, and an amazing sister who always put the needs of others above her own.

When Lan was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer five years ago, that didn’t stop her from living life to the fullest and pursuing her dreams and passions in life.  Initial moments of sorrow led to even more determination and strength in living every moment with heart and intention.  Stepping back from a business she loved, she poured her heart into self-discovery and the pursuit of her authentic self.  She rediscovered her love for art and joined a watercolor class, started journaling and writing a book, and truly found her spiritual self to come to a place of peace and acceptance with her path in life.  Lan was truly a fierce warrior, an amazing woman, and a beacon of light to all those who knew her.

Visitation will be held at the Langsford Funeral Home 115 SW 3rd St, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063 from 4:00pm until the last person has come through the line to pay their respects on Thursday May 25, 2023.

Lan was such a beautiful light in this world. From our work together, a wonderful friendship developed which lasted nearly 10 years. I was lucky enough to have visited her a few weeks ago, and she was as positive and gracious as she always was. A fighter until the end; I will miss her dearly. I regret that I will be out-of-town on the 25th, but want to express my deepest condolences to her husband, Kevin, her beautiful daughters, her family, and to the many friends and associates she had. She will always be remembered, with love.

What an amazing woman & mother Lan was. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers

Lan was such a strong woman. I always joked that Kevin had out kicked his coverage or married up. Kevin and Lan were such a good match. She will be missed for sure. Kevin, our condolences to you, your daughters, and family. God bless.

Lan, Was a loving woman. She always had a smile and was always so kind and interested in you. I will miss her. She leaves so many beautiful and lovely memories for us all. Fly high Lan!

We had the pleasure of meeting both Kevin and Lan when they first stayed with us in 2006. They soon became one of our Select Guests that we looked forward to seeing every year. Our condolences go out to Lan’s family and her husband Kevin during this difficult time.

I met Lan only a few times, but what a bright personality. She had a warm smile and brought us a gift at our housewarming party. I was really touched that Kevin and Lan came by that night to wish us well in our new home.
I’m so sorry she is no longer with us, but is fully restored. Prayers for Kevin, the girls, and family.

I knew Lan for many years and though only from afar she has amazing vibrance and energy from miles away.

The love and synchronicity between Kevin and Lan was obviously powerfully deep and beautifully harmonious as love is at its best.

Her higher self will be with them eternally as this path on earth is but a drop in the sea of experiences our spirits swim in forever.

My thoughts love and prayers are with Kevin and his family as they carry her on in their journeys.

She is on to her next realm of experiences but always with them and closely nearby.

Lan, I’ll never forget the day we first met and you kindly helped us through our first rough days in America! You are so kind! May you rest in peace!

My deepest condolences to the family..
I hope God fills your hearts with peace and love.

From the moment you met Lan you just loved her. She was so calming for me at a time when I was so scared and nervous about our house that my late husband Ty and I were building. She always made me feel good about my decisions and I would always rely on her to help me out. I am surrounded by Lan and Ty every day and will always miss her as much as I do my beloved husband. Two of the best people in my life. I hope they get together up in heaven. They will have a great
time. I hear it is a wonderful place.

We extend heartfelt condolences to the family. May the Lord comfort you during this time.
Psalm 27:4-5
4 One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.

Our deepest condolences for Kevin and family. I remember meeting Lan when we purchased our home built by D&D. She was a ray of light and had a genuine spirit. Deeply saddened by this news for the family. May God give you strength and peace in your loss.

Dear Lilli, Kiley, Harrison, Tyler & Mr. Stallings;

Though not one of the lucky ones to have met your mom & wife, I do know how special & cool she was.
You will cherish those fun & loving memories for the rest of your lives. Hang closely onto to those memories as you will find yourself smiling through the tears for years to come. This I do know know from missing my mother.

Dear Kevin and kids, I am so sad to hear of Lan’s passing (and around the same time as your mom Kevin). I am so glad to have had the chance to get to know Lan a little when you visited Calif. and of course at Erik and Natasha’s wedding as well. She was so easy to get to know. I am so sorry for your loss as a family and I will keep you all in my prayers. Erik’s Mom!!

Lan was a great lady. Made your heart warm to be around. Another bright flame in this world that went out way to soon.

Kevin, so sad that we cannot be with you as you celebrate sweet Lan. Our hearts are there for sure. She was a gem! I have been saying prayers for you as I walk through my house every day and see the finished Lan helped me pick out for our home. We will never forget her. She infused confidence, exuded joy, and was a master at her craft. We pray God’s peace that passes all understanding to come over you as you miss her. May God comfort your hearts as only He can. And May you feel His presence with you in the days to come. With love and prayers, Randy & Rozanne
