In Memory of

Laura Ross Alvarez

July 26, 1964 - November 9, 2020

Obituary

Our beloved Laura Ross Alvarez (56) passed away on November 9, 2020 from complications related to her long battle with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer.  Daughter of the late Charles and Norma Myers Ross, Laura was born on July 26, 1964 in Memphis, TN.  The family moved from Southaven, MS to Kennett, MO in 1969 and later to Kansas City, MO in 1976.  Laura graduated from Center Senior high School in 1982 and earned her Associates degree from UMKC.  Laura started working at Kansas City Life when she was 16. She worked as a New Business Associate and Supervisor and most recently as a Model Office Analyst at KC Life until her passing.

In 1993, Laura married Jesse Alvarez and they were blessed with twin daughters in 1995. A few years later Laura and Jesse divorced. In 2013, she met her best friend and the love of her life Michael David Cash. After years of endless love and support, Mike and Laura married in February 2019. The two spent the last few years creating their fairytale life and home in Lake Lotawana, MO. Laura leaves behind her husband Mike Cash, two daughters Olivia and Rachel Alvarez and step daughter Julia Cash. Along with two sisters Deborah Ross and Melissa Jill Ross, both of Raytown, MO and one brother Mark Ross and sister in law Mindy of Melbourne, FL. Niece, Jessie Hartzler, and nephews Clint Hartzler and Ben Ross. As well as two cousins Peggy Milner of Pacific, MO and Don Ross of Camdenton,  MO.

Laura fought hard for her family since her diagnosis in 2014. Never letting her cancer hold her back, she and Mike traveled with family as often as she could, creating as many memories and experiences as possible. Laura loved cooking, home decor, her many, many animals, and just being with her family.  She was Mike’s ultimate fishing partner, and much to Mike’s dismay, Laura always caught the biggest fish wherever they went. Laura touched the lives of so many people, always making her home as warm and welcoming as possible. She was loved by so many and will be missed dearly.

The family will be welcoming friends and loved ones from 2:00-3:00PM at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd St, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063and end the day with a  Celebration of Life, beginning at 3:00PM. Condolences  may be made to the family at www.langsfordfuneralhome.com

Laura was just looking into fostering kittens. We would like to make her Memorial contributions to KC Pet Project so that in some way she can still be a part of that. Please go to

Dear Debby, what a beautiful tribute to your sister, Laura. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. I remember meeting her and visiting her home many years ago when the twins were small. We love you ?

To Laura’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. It was such a shock when I learned of her passing after everything she had gone through. She was very tough lady who fought hard to keep living for herself and all of you. I know she didn’t go down without a fight. Laura was a big part of the New Business department and we will all miss her dearly.

Laura was a nice and sweet person, every time we cam in contact with each other. I worked with her in Model Office these last two months. She will definitely be missed by everyone here at KC Life. Sending prayers to her daughter’s, husband, and her entire family! It was a blessing to know her!! May the Lord strengthen you during this time of loss and for months and years to come.
