Lester Clarence Oman, age 96 passed away October 5, 2023, at his home at John Knox Village Assisted Living surrounded by his wife and family.

Lester was born October 14, 1926, in Little River, Kansas. He was one of six children growing up in Dust Bowl Kansas during the Great Depression.  At an early age he made his own toys by finding scrap wood and whatever he could find.  This gift led to developing his artistic skills and a love of woodworking. This also led to a career in design and architecture and was a partner at Fullerton, Carey, Oman and Alexander Architects.  He also worked closely with another architect Jim Davis.

Lester and his family moved to Lees Summit, MO in his junior year of High School, he graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1944.  Lester served briefly in the Army Air Corp at the end of WWII. He enlisted again in the Air Force during the Korean War. In August of 1952, he wed Helen Louise Adams in Lone Jack, Missouri. They celebrated 71 years of marriage on August 3rd. They were blessed with 3 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He loved to play golf, was active in the Boy Scouts and a leader in his church. Lester and Helen were involved in the Mariner Group and were Teaching Elders at Ruskin Heights Presbyterian Church for many years. Later they became members of the First Presbyterian Church in Lees Summit. He again used his design and woodworking skills to create the cross for this church. In addition, he has used his skills to produce many pieces of furniture that are still being used by his family today.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Clarence and Hannah Josephine Olson Oman. Four sisters, Marjorie Jones, Eunice Oman, Elvera Oman, Ilene Oman and a brother, Marvin Oman. He is survived by his wife Helen Oman and three children, Jim Oman, Steve Oman, Susan Nichols (Tim).
