Obituary

Linda Jo Sietstra, nee Hendrick, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away at the age of 81 on April 24, 2024. Visitation will be at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, MO on Thursday, May 2, from 4-6 pm and the Funeral service will be Friday, May 3 at 10 am. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.

Linda was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 19, 1942, to Joseph and Mary Frances Hendrick. Linda graduated from Arlington Heights High school, then attended Texas Wesleyan College and completed graduate work at the University of Texas. She became a teacher, utilizing her English degree and educating students within Department of Defense schools. This role eventually took her overseas to Europe where she met her husband, John Sietstra.

After a whirlwind courtship, they were united in marriage on May 12, 1973, in Hanau, Germany. When their time in Germany came to an end, Linda and John made their way to northwest Iowa. They grew their family through the gift of adoption, bringing their six children home to Iowa.

Linda is survived by her five children: John (Lisa) Sietstra of Greenwood, MO; Sarah Sietstra of Lee’s Summit, MO; Angela (Walter) Spivey of Las Vegas, NV; Andrew Sietstra of Fayetteville, NC; Jeremy (Beth) Sietstra of Lee’s Summit, MO. Linda was the proud grandmother to Elijah, Aidan, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Celeste, AJ, Hudson, Elias, and Sophia. She is also survived by beloved nephews and nieces, as well as many friends in Christ.

Linda was preceded in death by her younger brother Dennis Hendrick, son Joseph (Tara) Sietstra, and husband of 47 years, John.

Linda was a vibrant personality and a fun-loving spirit. She never met a stranger, appreciated travel and experiencing other cultures-encouraging her children to do the same. She may not have continued her classroom teaching career after having children but remained an educator as she raised her family. Linda will be missed by all who knew her.
