Obituary

Marjorie Ann Stevens, 80, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., passed away August 25, 2018. She was born July 20, 1938, to Ellison and Martha Otto in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Raytown Senior High School in 1956. She received her B.A. in English from University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1972 graduating with distinction. She received her M.A. in Secondary Education from University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1986. She married her beloved husband, Leroy Richard, on March 22, 1957 at Eastwood Hills Baptist Church. They were married 59 years until his passing on October 6, 2016. In the early years of the marriage Margie worked at Kansas City Power & Light while Leroy attended Finlay Engineering College. While raising their young children she took on laundry and clerical services from the home. After the children were older she focused on her career as a Middle School English Teacher and taught within the Raytown School District for over 20 years. At Eastwood Hills Baptist Church Margie and Leroy met many of their life-long friends. In later years, they attended both FBC Raytown and FBC Lee’s Summit. Margie had a strong devotion to and love for God. In retirement Margie and Leroy spent their time with family and friends. In the final years, Margie focused her love and attention to caring for Leroy as he battled Alzheimer’s. Margie herself was a cancer survivor. Through these challenges Margie remained a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She leaves her son, Don (Christine); grandson Michael (Marnie); her granddaughters, Melissa, Emily and Hanna; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Keith; and brothers, Stanley, Ellison Jr., William and Thomas. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 1, at Langsford Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery in Raytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, 2 NE Douglas St., Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
