Obituary
Marjorie Ellen Lewis died on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the age of 96.
Margie was born to parents George Edward Thomas and Nettie Thomas in Kansas City, Missouri on March 31, 1926. Margie lived a very full life. She led a path for women’s leadership success during her long career in the Independence, MO US post office becoming the first female mail carrier as well as postal supervisor in the city. She enlisted in the Coast Guard at age 17 to support the country in World War II, receiving an Honorable Discharge. In retirement, Margie enjoyed her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren, gardens, and her pet dogs. Her quick wit and humor made her friends to all; she will be dearly missed.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Ray Lewis. They were married 64 years. She was also preceded in death by her son, Cecil (Corky) Ray Lewis, Jr. She is survived by her other four children Gary Wayne and Rita Lewis of Lee’s Summit, Denis Carlton Lewis of Lone Jack, Mo., Linda Lee and Barbara Lewis of Ft Myers, FL and Kimothy Sue and Spurgeon Norman of Bella Vista, AR; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor next spring. As a veteran, Margie will be interred at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery, Higginsville, MO, alongside her husband Cecil.
