Obituary

Martha Alice Schmidt, 88, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2018. A memorial service will be held at Langsford Funeral Home on Saturday, November 24 at 2 pm. Visitation at 1pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to Longview Chapel Christian Church.

Martha was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 29,1930 to Ruth and Wendell Andrew. She was a graduate of Paseo High School and Kansas State University. In December of 1951, she married her husband, Dave. Together they raised four children, with Martha’s focus on providing a happy, loving home for all. She lived a very active life and enjoyed sewing, baking, shopping, exercising, traveling, and hosting family gatherings. She also worked outside of the home, sharing her talents and creativity in several part time occupations and volunteer work. She retired in 1994, from Notre Dame de Sion High School where she worked as a school secretary. Martha was a member of P.E.O, Faith Presbyterian Church of Raytown and later Longview Chapel Christian Church of Lee’s Summit. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sally Hyman; and son, James Schmidt. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, David Schmidt; sons, Dan Schmidt (Patti) and Tom Schmidt (Cyndi); daughter Susan Hendrix (Buddy); 9 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Dear Dan & Patti, I am so sorry to hear this. You have been so lucky to have her part of your familie’s life for all these years. I can imagine that only adds to the pain. She was the sweetest lady as I recall and think I have a bing cherry salad recipe from her. I want to express my sympathy to all of you and pray the wonderful memories will comfort you thru your sadness and grief.
