Marvin Edward Berry was born in Potosi, Missouri on October 14, 1938 and passed away in Waldron, Arkansas on October 12, 2025. He was the eldest child born to Herbert and Lucille Berry, who preceded him in death, as did sister, Janice, and infant brother, John.
He was 13 years old when he left school to help support his mother and 5 siblings and got a job at a gas station where he learned the mechanic trade. He was drafted to the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served in the Military Police at Leavenworth, Kansas for 2 years. During that time, working at the Disciplinary Barracks, he met Margaret, who became his wife for 27 years, and they had 3 children. He served 6 more years in the Army as a mechanic in Thailand and Germany and left the Army to reside in Lansing with his wife and children, worked as a corrections officer at the Lansing State Prison and ultimately, the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas where he retired after 20 years. He helped build firetrucks with Scotty Overfield in Lansing and stripped tobacco with his father-in-law in Weston, Missouri. After retiring from U.S. Penitentiary, he was self-employed as a welder and mechanic for semi-truck drivers in the Kansas City area.
Marvin was very skilled as a mechanic and an avid bird lover. During his retirement years, he had several bird feeders and enjoyed watching finches, blue buntings, and hummingbirds, among others, at his feeders.
