Obituary
Maxine Ann (Gibson) Bynum born January 21, 1936, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and a beloved family that continues to grow.
Her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a beloved matriarch of a large family is a testament to her adaptability, determination, and enduring spirit. Born in a home without electricity to sending pictures and texts to her family with her iPhone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Wayne Bynum, her parents, Freda Ann (Snow) Gibson and Max Oscar Gibson, and an infant brother John Charles. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Michael Wayne (Kim) and Gregory Charles (Kristi), sister Leah Jane Brady and brother Charles Snow Gibson (Billie), eight cherished grandchildren – Michelle Chandler (Josh), Craig Bynum (Jennifer), Victoria Bynum (Logan McCamon), Christopher Bynum (Shysta), Caroline Nichols (Zac), and Chase, Noah, and Gavin Bynum, as well as five great-grandchildren, Cali, Haley, Addie, Peyson, Jhett and one more on the way, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Maxine dedicated 30 years of her professional life to the IRS, after working as a school cafeteria cook, where she found the recipe for her often-made cherry triangles and fudge nut brownies each Christmas. She spent many years volunteering at Powell Gardens, much to the delight of her grandchildren who would see their grandmother serving popcorn and hot chocolate at the end of the Halloween event each year.
A woman of quiet strength and unshakable faith in the Lord Jesus, she was a member of the Lone Jack Christian Church since 1961 and played the piano, was a Deacon and served on the church board for many years. Maxine was loved deeply and will be profoundly missed. She was cherished not only for her wit and feisty personality but also for her ability to make everyone feel welcome and important.
Her legacy lives on in the family she loved and the lives she touched.
A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Langsford’s Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, MO with interment in Strasburg Cemetery. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., Service at 11:00 a.m. followed by her burial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lone Jack Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
