Obituary

Olen Jack Steele, 92, passed away Aug 6, 2022. Funeral will be Friday, August 12, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, MO. Visitation will be from 11:00am-12:00pm. Burial will be at Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit, MO following the service.

Jack was born on Jan 1, 1930 in Crane, MO. He graduated from Crane High School. After high school, Jack joined the army serving in the Korean War as a radio transmitter in Germany. After the army he went to MU where he obtained his degree in Animal Husbandry. He then married Teresa Linnenbrink on November 26, 1955. Jack loved to garden. He would spend many hours in his garden growing many fruits and vegetables that would be eaten by the family year-round. He also had a small apple orchard. For many years he bought and sold small herds of cattle.

Jack started his career with Federal Land Bank in Union, MO in 1955, moving his family to Aurora, MO and then to Lee’s Summit area in 1962 to become president of the bank in Lee’s Summit. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service.

Jack was part of the Lee’s Summit Optimist for many years. He would help every year with the pancake breakfasts. He also was able to present to several of his grandkids, Optimist of the Month at Greenwood Elementary. He was also a long-time member of the First United Methodist church in Lee’s Summit.

He is proceeded in death by his father John Edward Steele, mother Willie Dean Steele (Metcalf), wife Teresa Ann Steele (Linnenbrink), brother Donald Steele and infant son Robert Steele.

Survivors include, son Bill Steele (Cindy) of Greenwood, MO, Linda Adams of Springfield, MO, Jeff Steele (Shelly) of Greenwood, MO, seven grandchildren, Leah Saathoff (Kirk), John, Kyle (Katie) and Scott Adams, Stacey, Jackson (Jessica) and Martin Steele, three great grandsons, Gunner Saathoff, Arlo Adams, Forrest Steele, and many other family and friends.
