Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia “Patty” Hazelrigg on January 4, 2026. Born on November 30, 1954, Patty was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Patty is survived by her husband, Terry Hazelrigg; her loving daughters, Melanie Kielty and her husband, Patrick, and Tara Cogan and her husband, Jared; her siblings, Pauline Moyer, Jimmy and Marilee Martel, and Bobby and Ann Martel. Patty was a doting grandmother to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, and she was affectionately known as the “favorite aunt” by many. Her family was the center of her world, and time spent at her children’s homes was among her most cherished joys.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Pauline Martel; her sister, Paula Rumsey; and her brother, Raymond Martel.

Patty had a magnetic personality—warm, kind, witty, funny, outgoing, passionate, and deeply empathetic. Among her many interests, she loved watching Wheel of Fortune, playing Words with Friends and relaxing with a good cup of coffee. Above all else, she treasured time with her family. She was an incredible teacher, sharing her love of math with her grandchildren and teaching everyone around her the importance of generosity and unconditional love.

Patty’s greatest accomplishment was her family. Her legacy of kindness, love, and selflessness will live on through them. She leaves behind countless cherished memories and a lasting impact on the lives of those who were fortunate to know and love her.

Patty was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church and a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she served with dedication and enthusiasm.

A celebration of Patty’s life will be held on January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Grain Valley. All who wish to honor her memory are invited to attend and celebrate her remarkable life. Though she will be forever missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
