Patrick Edward Masteller (Pat) peacefully passed away on September 27, 2023, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Patrick was born January 1, 1929, the only child, to Hazel Lenora Pickerell Masteller and Harvey Edward Masteller in St. Joseph, Missouri. Pat grew up in south St. Joseph, Missouri attending Hyde Elementary then Benton High School. He graduated from Benton in 1946. After high school Pat attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. He left MU to join the United States Army. He was stationed in Northern Italy with the post World War II peace keeping troops. In 1950, he graduated from St. Joseph Community College with an Associates Degree in Science. Pat once again returned to college when his daughters were young. Graduating from University of Missouri Kansas City in 1961 with a Business Administration Degree. Patrick retired from the Internal Revenue Service after many years of service.
Pat’s passion was sports. He enjoyed watching all sports but especially the Kansas City Chiefs. He was full of Chief’s trivia, having watched them from the founding of the team. He was a lifelong golfer, moving to John Knox because they had a golf course. His goal for many years was to golf at least once every week of the year. You could find Pat many days at his favorite golf courses located at Shoal Park and Hodge Park.
Pat loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. This was most evident during the holidays. He never missed a birthday party for his children or grandchildren. Patrick always looked forward to big family celebrations at Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, he loved watching his grandchildren many activities from sports to marching band.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and his son Kurt H. Masteller. He is survived by her daughters Lisa Masteller Martel and Lori Ann Barnett. His pride and joy, his grandkids Phillip Martel, Andrew Martel, and Matthew Martel; Benjamin Barnett and Timothy Barnett; plus Allison Masteller, Daniel Masteller, and Amy Masteller.
Graveside services will be held for family later this year at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri.
