Obituary
Philip John Lauer
December 19, 1951 – December 18, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Philip John Lauer, 72, who passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, just one day shy of his 73rd birthday.
Philip was born on December 19, 1951, to Joseph Herman Lauer, Sr. and Elizabeth Antoinette Wagner Lauer. He grew up alongside his siblings, Marie Antoinette (Annette) McWilliams, Joseph Herman Lauer, Jr., George Francis Lauer, Paul Fredrick Lauer, and Vincent Noel Lauer, who preceded him in death.
Philip proudly served in the Air Force Reserve and later dedicated his career to the U.S. Postal Service. Known for his unwavering sense of humor and sarcasm, Philip brought a little bit of laughter to everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving children, Danielle Marie Lauer Miles and Frank Philip Lauer; his son-in-law, Thomas Oneal Miles; and his daughter-in-law, Chelsey Eileen Lauer. Philip also embraced his role as a stepfather to Ronnie Lee Baughman. His greatest joy was being “Grandpa” to his grandchildren: Katelyn Violetta-Marie and Michael Gonzalez, Isaiah Thomas and Jessi Lynn Miles, Santino Lucky, Frankie Micky, and Cole Lawrence Lauer, Danny Dean Dale and Kaylee Cheyenne Powell as well as great-grandson Elliott James Miles.
Philip loved collecting coins, discussing politics, and spending time outdoors. He was happiest surrounded by kids, grandkids and friends, sitting around with a beer in hand, sharing stories and cracking jokes. His sharp wit and jokester mentality will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 West 3rd Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063. A service to celebrate Philip’s life will follow at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages raising a glass in Philip’s honor, cherishing the laughter and memories he gave so freely. His legacy of love and humor lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I remember Phil coming up to Iowa to spend time with my family. He made it up for a couple of my kids graduations. Sitting out on the back porch with Phil telling me what I should be doing and how to do it. Basically stirring the pot. Our banter back and forth is something my whole family will remember. We will all miss him. My kids knew him as Crazy Phil.
We are sorry that we won’t be able to attend services. Our thoughts and prayers for Phil and his family are with you.

Frank and Muriel Lauers son.
Phil was always so special to me.
Always my big brother to teach me how to drive, what to wear or not wear and who I should or should not date. Found out many years later how he scared off anyone he didn’t think was good enough for me.
Phil will always have a special place in my heart.
But let’s face it, wouldn’t we all like to hear his first conversation with St Peter as to how better to monitor the Pearly Gates?
